View Full Version : The 'End Game' Question The Grim Ripper Fri, 1st Jun '01, 9:28pm Is there any possible way to carry on playing 1ce u've completed the game? if not, then that was a weak(ish)ending, you should be able to play quests uve havent finished and build up ure character for NWN! Captain Spud Fri, 1st Jun '01, 9:40pm sorry private, same thing in BGI. just have to take care of everything before you beat the boss. [This message has been edited by Captain Spud (edited June 01, 2001).] The Grim Ripper Fri, 1st Jun '01, 9:42pm k, tho i still think that is weak Captain Spud Fri, 1st Jun '01, 9:43pm i must agree with you on that one, same thing with the first one, i hope they do something else in NWN. Jack Funk Fri, 1st Jun '01, 9:50pm Agreed. What's the harm? Many games allow you to play on after the "end game". Even Civ 2 allowed you to play on after colonization. Lothar Fri, 1st Jun '01, 10:41pm I think that maybe part of the reason is because they want you to be waiting for ToB. That way you not only want to try out the new stuff, but you have old business to take care of too. EDIT: Hmm, sorry-that doesnt seem to make as much sense as it did when i was typing it. Ah well. [This message has been edited by Lothar (edited June 01, 2001).] Captain Spud Fri, 1st Jun '01, 11:10pm thats a good point and i can see how it applies to BG I too, but im thinking it would still be nice to continue playing. Lokken Fri, 1st Jun '01, 11:39pm Since you start over at lvl 1 in NWN, I think it doesn't really matter. Plz correct me if I'm wrong, but so I tihnk the last discussion ended kevlar0101 Fri, 1st Jun '01, 11:40pm of course, but then the story from ToB could get messed up Slappy Fri, 1st Jun '01, 11:47pm Just a small point (and I apologise to those that already know this) in case you missed it. The game does actually give you a chance to finish all of your outstanding quests before the end. Although it appears that (SPOILERS ahead if you haven't finished) you need to rush off, kill Bodhi and chase Iranicus immediately after escaping from the underdark, you don't actually have to. Once you are out and have been told about Bodhi you can bugger off and do what you like again until you decide it is time to finish the game. So before you actually face Iranicus in the Elven city you can go back to finish off quests and explore the new areas of the map that will now be open. Once again sorry to everyone who knew that, but some people have posted before saying they assumed they just had to rush off to the ending and so missed the rest (me too first time). As an extra thought, those who are all complaining because you want to just keep playing for ever (like in Civ), yes it would be nice. However, how would that really work. The main story has finished, for it to continue would need the programmers to keep posting free updates :) (or charge for add-on packs like ToB :(). If you just want to wander aimlessly killing things without a story then ok but eventually it will become very boring (just like civ does when you have colonised, researched everything, conquered the world and done everything else apart from build on every inch of the map). If that is what you want to do though you can sort of achieve it by exporting your characters, loading them into a multiplayer game and playing them through again and again with the experienced cap removed. Finally, I think someone mentioned about beefing your stats up for Never Winter Night. of course we won't know for absolute certainty until the game is released but, it is unlikely to be an issue. All the press releases seem to be suggesting that the game will allow you to import a character but he/she will be at an appropriate level for the game so as not to spoli it. Anyway here are some links to patches, importing a character for multiplayer use and Never Winter Nights. http://www.sorcerers.net/Games/BG2/index_editors2.htm http://www.sorcerers.net/ubb/Forum2/HTML/001713.html http://www.sorcerers.net/ubb/Forum2/HTML/002316.html http://www.sorcerers.net/ubb/Forum2/HTML/002338.html (with that last one, you have to read down a few posts before they start talking about importing into NWN) PS. Of course it might be that what people really want is a game that they pay for once and then can play forever. I can't help feeling that that will never happen and that most Bioware/Black Isle games already offer fantastic entertainment hour per buck. ;) |
