I'm in the Underdark, in the southern tunnels where the beholders etc are located.

The tactic I've currently been using to defeat these gits is to cast confusion just out of their line of sight and then move in for the kill. This works really well as their just fumbling around waiting to be taken out.

I suppose I'm after people's opinion on this as i'm highly asgainst the cloud kill/fog of war tactic.

In my opinion that's legit, because you move in for the kill... What I think is cheap is casting cloudkill and then hanging back, because the monster AI won't move the monsters out of the cloud, and they won't attack you. In your case, you're giving them the chance to do you in, they're just not sure who to attack...

Thats what I thought but I just wanted to clear my concience!!

Besides, in real life the strategic answer would be to set up your attack out of the enemies line of sight and then go in. You would'nt be that intelligent if you just ran into the thick of battle.

Well, I'm off to kill some more floating big heads.

How did you get it to work?
Their bloody Magic resistance is so high.

I just kept my party out of the way, and I walked my sorcerer in there. I wore the cloak of mirrors, and I had to do virtually no work, because they kill themselves. I cast mordenkains sword once because it was taking them too long, but otherwise thats basically my tactic.

If I'm using my party I try get him to throw his spells at my sorc through a couple different tactics, and if I can't do that I just throw everything I can at them until they fall.

Shura: If you find that thay continually save vs spell, then you can use GREATER MALISON (4th lvl Wizard spell) to give them penalties against their saving throws.

Make sure that you quick save just before you cast the spell and keep on trying untill either all of them or most of them get effected (i only found the elder orbs to have magic resitance against it)

SoulFly: Do you mean the cloak of reflection? If you do then I've found this to be crap!! All it does is reflect lightening back to the caster and as we all know - beholders and their kin use cause serious wounds, hold, petrification etc etc.

Which cloak are you talking about???

Telex if my mind any off screen crap is pretty bad (then again im your hardcore fighter like minsc, rather solve everything with a blade than with magic) but at least that tactics isnt "too" bad. I personally give people potions (and carry one for every situation) then i send that 1 guy in to take the initial blow but with the potion he will not have anything done. then when its down to the battling everyone joins in with everything we got.

I disagree!

The issue with the fog of war and area effect spells is that when people cast cloud kill, the AI does'nt tell the creatures to move out of the fog of war to search for the attacker - people are using a bug in the game to their advantage. In my case, I feel that I'm using fog of war in the way that it should be used, by taking advantage of line of sight to set up my attack, at which point I move in and attack.

TelexStar - Boy did you miss out on a FANTASTIC cloak... The Cloak of Mirrors reflects ALL spell damage back to the being who cast it at you. I (an Archer) took on a lich by myself in the Underdark, and I pretty much could have twiddled my thumbs during the battle.
