View Full Version : Has anyone ever finished the beholder city without taking the easy way?
zort Fri, 1st Jun '01, 3:36pm By easy I mean the cloak of mirroring, shield of bladuran or summoning creatures to attack it. If so how did you do it? oops I forgot to add killing it off screen with spells

Lord Praetor Munir Fri, 1st Jun '01, 3:39pm its possible.. you can cast long range spells at them like ice storm or something..
or you can use NPCs like Viconia who has a high magic resistance.. boost it some more with special items and she can take them down single handedly i think...
Headbanger Fri, 1st Jun '01, 3:58pm It's indeed possible. There's one place where you meet 5 or 6 beholders and some gauths at the same time, that's really tough. I couldn't kill tehm all so I casted with my 2 mages 2 Fog's of Death, Ice Storm, and Incendiary Cloud. The mages were hastet and ran back to the begin of the map where the fighters waited for the damaged beholders and kill them one by one... There some nice treasure in the wall of one of the beholder's cave.
Lord Moeken Fri, 1st Jun '01, 4:00pm It's been awhile, but I remember casting Chaos into the group and they began to fight amongst themselves.
Nobleman Fri, 1st Jun '01, 4:24pm Dwarves have very good saves. Once I disbelieved Saemon (Again I am not sure on the spelling). This means no ship which again means no cloak.
So I had a dwarven fighter, beserker. and some potions of Invulnerability (+5 saves) I gave him a ring +2 and a helmet that grants protection from charm. He had a hard time. Had to lure them one at a time. And use his rage in attles against Elder Orbs. Not to get imprisoned.
Afterwards he demanded a swig or some strong dwarven ale

Captain Spud Fri, 1st Jun '01, 5:24pm where do you get the cloak of mirroring?
[It's in the undersea sharky (Sahuagin) place on one of the priests - BTA]

Headbanger Fri, 1st Jun '01, 6:17pm Killcouds, lol... Cloudkills only don't really work for the Beholders will attack you when you damage them so they go to you, you injure them a little but not enough... Cast cloukill on them, soon they'll all go to you, reach in site and kill you.
kevlar0101 Fri, 1st Jun '01, 6:42pm never tried it, would take more than 30 minutes I think, so.............. :D
Ragusa Fri, 1st Jun '01, 6:46pm Yes, I tried and it was tough though satisfying. My best weapon against beholders is Abi-Dalzimīs terrific drain (or whatever it is called).
Protection from lightning is also quite useful, just like sunfire spell. I usually send in a team consisting of a fighter protecting the mage firing area spells.
I havenīt yet tried death fog (mage lvl-6 spell).
