View Full Version : Broken weapon

Hi people. I´m just gonna ask you one simple little question. In Baldurs Gate 1, the weapons were breaking and falling apart whenever you did something because of the bad ore. (or something like that) Then, not one single weapon was destroyed during the entire game.
Now I´ve started a new game in SoA and after killing the Duergars in the prison, I find a broken sword lying with the other equipments.
I have never found a broken sword in SoA before, even though I´ve played through the game many times. Is there something special about this weapon or did it simply brake?
PS. Sorry about spamming if it was for nothing.

The same broken weapon I have found too, in the same place too. It was my first game and I thought it had significance  then my friend (who introduced me to SP and BG2) was like, "What are you doing carrying a broken weapon around?!?!"
I was like, " I dunno." :D
Needless (haha needles!) to say I never found a use for it, and never worried about picking it up again.

We've had this debate like a year ago when the game came out. It was settled then that the broken weapon you find there is useless and simply a decoration, nothing else.

Well my theory on it is that the dueregar had it because as the weapon smiths for irenicus they were going to be repairing it. A little GM's touch :).

Why are you storing gems? Shouldn't you sell them? What other uses do they have?

Spoilers!!!!!....

You use a rogue stone to get into the Twisted Rune, so that you can fight a cool fight and get the Staff of the Magi.

Also the Horn of Vhalla is upgraded by certain stones to get more enhanced versions of it.

And there may be more reasons, but those are two important ones that pop into my head right now.

BigB:
The twisted rune thing with the rouge stone lies in the Bridge District, right?
I´m in need for the Staff of the Magi.

You can use any rogue stone. It's a house in the southern part of the bridge district. The door is on the eastern part of one of the houses. When you try to enter it without a rogue stone, you get a message that nothing seems to bebehind the door, only a big black nothing :)

Sounds like melord is spamming! I would say that there is probably some deeply-hidden secret meaning for the broken weapon, like it is one of your old one, or to represent the officiousness of the colleagues of Jonny Irenicus. Probably doesn't matter.

You can even make broken weapons, although it isn't very usefull

Hi,

The twisted rune rogue stone thing is interesting. You can use any stone to open the door.

However, I found a rogue stone the other day that wouldn't stack with the other rogue stones in my collection. The description of the stone had a very cryptic clue that mentioned the bridge district :). I can't remember where I found it though. I think it must of been in the city somewhere.

Anyone else noticed this?

Cheers,

WittyNewt.

Yeah I know what you're talking about WittyNewt, the rogue stone thing has happened to me before too. I'll keep an eye out for which one it is though since I am making a BG2 run right now ;).
