View Full Version : Paladin cavaliers
nicholi Thu, 19th Apr '01, 6:39pm i know that paladins have turn undead but does the kit of different paladins change for the better for some of the pally kits or is it the same for all of them? i am considering starting a new game with a cavalier and i need all the advice i can get. also is a cavalier race restricted to humans like in BG1? all i have played in BG2 has been a multiclassed fighter/cleric which i thought was a pretty good class but i have been hearing a lot about the cavalier and he sounds awsome.
kevlar0101 Thu, 19th Apr '01, 6:45pm The cavalier is a fine choice, not for me f'course, I hate em. Yes, u can only be a paladin if you're a human
Enagonios Thu, 19th Apr '01, 7:12pm Yeah, I normally only play Elves. And I don't like paladins too much. Too narrow-minded and uncompromising. Kinda like a high-school teacher :D
Da Punisher Thu, 19th Apr '01, 7:15pm But they kick some serious butt...!
Ragusa Thu, 19th Apr '01, 7:16pm As your manual tells the Paladin is actually human race only (my halfling is an exception - but other race pallys are allowed in AD&D 3rd Ed. ;) - only to encourage you ... )
-Cavalier (melee only character, no other restrictions - specialised in fighting dragons/ demons; 20% fire and acid resistance, immune to fear); boni vs dragons and demons.
-Undead-Hunter (specialised on fighting undead, so heīs immune to hold and disease, can turn undead like a cleric of the same leven (unlike the usual pally that has cleric-lvl-2), THACO-boni when fighting undead; no lay-on-hands ability.
-Inquisitor (specialised on fighting mages; true sight, the most powerful dispel magic in the game; canīt cast cleric spells); no lay-on-hands ability, no turn-undead and no cleric spells.
all feature improved rescue throws and generally the ability to cast some lower level cleric spells. Even without Carsomyr any paladin (-kit) is a major asskikr
Extremist Thu, 19th Apr '01, 10:59pm I simply must say
Never played cavalier although he sounds good because you can't ride a horse (lat. caval) in the game!
I hope they'll change that in ToB or NWN at least...
Tyresian Thu, 19th Apr '01, 11:19pm cavaliers are good, but i prefer the inquisitors cause paladins suck with cleric spells anyway and the inquisitors get a dispel magic at double their level and some other cool abilities that r more useful
Lothar Thu, 19th Apr '01, 11:24pm Yeah-that would be a sweet addition, the ability to buy and ride mounts! I think that such a change could be considered for future games in this vein, although by all news, there will be no BG3. Although I am no programer, I think that perhaps that could be created, although it would be a major pain in the ass to create all the movements + visual stuff for a double set of paper dolls (all current ones, and on horse). Yes, I like this idea very much.
Tyresian Thu, 19th Apr '01, 11:34pm How would horses be better for gameplay? Besides being eye candy and hard to add in what else could they serve? Bah, give me boots of speed if u find the ppl too slow
ayecapitan Fri, 20th Apr '01, 3:32am Undead Hunter be the easiest way to complete the 'good' path of the game
Volar Blackmane Fri, 20th Apr '01, 6:06pm Hmmm, charging from the back of a fully armoured warhorse, using a +3 lance of whatever might be cool :)
Mathetais Fri, 20th Apr '01, 6:18pm A mounted cavalier would rock, but very difficult to implement.
I remember in Ultima you could get horses, but only to speed up your movement around the world. You'd have to dismount to fight.
In an old set of rules, cavaliers were able to fight as one level higher if on horseback.
Why not expand it, and allow cavaliers to be mounted on a Griffin, Pegasus or (gasp) dragon!
Extremist Fri, 20th Apr '01, 8:40pm I completely agree.
One more RPG you could ride a horse and a boat is Activision's Wizards & Warriors. Bad thing you must fight standing only here too.
And game to ride a dragon also exist - Drakan. And you can fight while flying (you control dragon's several types of flames)! It's a pure action game with a girl searching for her brother. And she looks soo damned good that I'm telling you I don't know who is Lara Croft anymore.
Ragusa Sat, 21st Apr '01, 1:47am Yes cavaliers rock, even more when they are backed up by a +4 horse :D
