Okay, I am confused.

Just started the thieves quests and having seen the demise of poor Mook, I tried to go back to the thieves guild.

I run into vampire woman and two cohorts. No probs I think - I have amulet of power - no draining here.

I start to attack her with my +1 katana and my NPC's attack he others with missile weapons as I rush into the fray with wild abandon.

Then - no effect is what people are shouting. WHAT.

The normal vamps are easily dispatched but the female (top vamp) seems imune to all weapons (+1, +2 and +3) sharp or blunt. I damaged her only with Flame Arrow (not a lot done) and sunburst bullets.

So anyway this continues with myself spelling and sunburst bulleting her while the main guy immune to her drains stands to be hit with cleric behind curing him.

Then I notice that she is regenerating at an INCEDIBLE rate. From "badly injured" she 20 seconds later is Uninjured - despite the constant onslaught. And by this time I had summoned thingys attacking her too.

So wht the Sam Hill is going on folks.

HELP!!!

P.S. No I did not have undead spogging spells such as Holy Smite but would it have made a difference?

When she hurts you she heals herself

Vampires and other creatures (such as GOLEMS) have specific immunities/resistances.

Vampires and the like can be harmed by Magical weapons. Elder vampires need a more powerful weapon to hit them (like IRON Golems).

Elder Vampires also have resistances that can be 'reduced' by spells so that you then can start damaging them effectively. I *think* they have magic/slashing/damage resistances. However a +3 weapon should be able to hit even an Elder Vampire. I've had MINSC use the +3 Throwing axe and hit Elder Vampires immediately with all of their resistances at 'full'.

And yes Vampires are 'Vampiric' and therefore drain you of lvls/hp's to fortify/heal themselves.

Well the point is that before now I had dispatched lots of these I think around ye olde streets, but this one was fantastic!!!

Anyone got a strategy to beat them, as if as i think i am going to go into a den of them, then i do not want to be told "weapon ineffective".

As I say I tried weapons of all sorts and magical plus' and frankly I am stumped, unless the game had a funny five minutes.

I had to RUN AWAY for gods sake. Damned embarassing for a group of 11th Level killers who had killed a Shadow Dragon etc before now.

And before think that I am a total newbie, I should say that I have been playing AD&D for yonks.

Had the same problems with that lady; just cast breach on her, worked pretty well for me

I think that Vampire ur talking about is the "Mistress" she i think is the most powerful Vampire in the game.

Consider her a Hero of sorts. Powerful in certain ways more then normal Monsters.

So that's why ur having a tougher time.

Remember? she was trapped in Irenicus's Prison.

Oh I see, that could be it. Thanks all.

Her name was Tanova or something similar by the way and on this occasion she was not just sucking thief, she came after me and asked my affiliation.....watch out for it those of you that have not come across it yet.

Thanks.

Well you came across one of a few Elder Vampires -the 'Mistress' is actually Bohdi. She's tough and you wont get a 'real' fight with her until Chap 6. You'll get a 'mini' fight with her after you get the quest to wipe out the 'competition guild' (rival of the Shadow Thieves) if you haven't got that one already.

Tanova, Del and one or two more appear with a couple of 'cronies' at night throghout the city and they can be beaten. Mercutios' post suggested one of the many spells that I normally use that penetrate a magically protected opponent. -Breach, also I use Low Resist, Secret Word, Pierce are the main ones. Lower level characters may only have a couple of those to choose from but they work, at least they worked for me! Also having the Amulet of Power helps ALOT!

The Azure Axe (I think that's the name) works REAL well against Vampires. If they miss their saving throw, they're dead.

One thing about that axe though... In the description it says it works against all undead, but skeletons at least seem immune...

Where do you get his Axe from?

Just my luck that I have dismissed Korgan. But my Paladin Keldorn and a Sunray blade should make them think twice I feel.

Hmmm... I believe I bought it from the guy in the Copper Coronet (not one of the bonus guys you get with the bonus or special ed. cds - I don't have either). I don't remember if he had it before the Coronet came under new management, but I'm pretty sure I bought it from there when Hendak was in charge of things... I think the guys name is Bernard...

BTW it's one of those combo melee/throwing axes that return to your hand...

I don't think that what you saw is just a case of it being a normal event in the game, I had the exact same thing happen with a Greater Wolfwere in the Windspear Hills, (would hit him for 100+ points of damage in one round and have him at near death, then next round he's back to uninjured). I was thinking that it may be a case of the game randomly throwing in something to keep you on your toes, that only needs a change in tactics to beet. When I faced that Wolfwere (had to be the toughest fight for me), about the fith time through I tried a hold person spell on it (hadn't worked for me on anything else) which ended up holding it fast and stopping its regeneration.

I had a probem with the sunblade, it would not hurt any creature that needed a plus 3 or better weapon to hit, even though it is +2, +4 vs evil creatures. I absolutly could not hurt elder vampires with it, until I used the sunray power and then switched weapons that is.

I noticed that 'Day Star' blade was phony as well. It is not a +2/+4 vs evil creatures weapon. It doesn't hit squat at +4 because it's only a +2 weapon. Sell it. Perhaps a patch from Interplay/Bioware will fix this 'Day Star' weapon when one is released.
