View Full Version : Vamps or Thieves
Azarial Sun, 29th Oct '00, 9:26pm Which way is more fun to go with-killing vampires or thieves??...also, which path has better loot
ie do i go pay that guys the 20k, or do i go meet that vampire in the graveyard.
Sylvus Moonbow Sun, 29th Oct '00, 9:28pm That's all you're after is loot?
Oh.
Syl...
Azarial Sun, 29th Oct '00, 10:21pm No, i am not only after the loot. I inquired as to which path would be more enjoyable. However, loot is a consideration, because i attempted the Windspear hills too early, and was was in over my head and unable to reload to a recent point, (bad saving techniques) therefor, i want to find items that can make my party powerful enough to wreak havoc and revenge on those who killed my party in a *different universe*
Sylvus Moonbow Sun, 29th Oct '00, 10:59pm Well, to be honest with you, if you found Windspear Hills tough, you won't fair much better doing either the Shadow Thief jobs or the Vampire jobs as they are tougher. My suggestion is to do De'Arnise Hold, Umar Hills, Planar Sphere, Windspear Hills, Trademeet, then all the city quests inside of Athkatla, then move on to Chapter 3, by either going with the thieves or the vampires.
The way I see it is that the Shadow Thieves are people, trying to make a living. Vampires are undead, no matter what you say or do, they'll turn on you eventually.

TelexStar Mon, 30th Oct '00, 2:36pm here, bloody here !!!!
Vermillion Mon, 30th Oct '00, 2:46pm You do bet more experience siding with the Shadow Thieves if that sways you any.
Sylvus Moonbow Mon, 30th Oct '00, 3:59pm On regards to the Shadow Thieves, has anyone tried to kill the leader of the guild when he's inside? There is a guy who appears out of the shadows and is using some type of weapon that is very, very deadly. He killed a friends entire party, 5 characters in a matter of say, 10 seconds. Attack - DEAD. Attack - DEAD. I'll have to get the name of the NPC.

Vile Mon, 30th Oct '00, 5:32pm Well, either way you go, you will have to verse theives and vampires, so it doesn't really matter; but I personally like the vampires better. It really just depends on what you are willing to do.
Blackthorne TA Mon, 30th Oct '00, 6:34pm I've heard of the guy who comes when you attack the thieves guild "illegitimately". Apparently he's invincible at that time and extremely deadly! I've also heard that when you meet him at the "appropriate" time, he's no longer god-like...
Draco Vlasavius Mon, 30th Oct '00, 7:41pm His name is... Arkanis Gath. He cannot be defeated. In my first time through BG1 I tried, NUMEROUS TIMES. (kept quickloading and changing tactics from a savegame) I even had him down to 'Near Death' status but he would NEVER die even after another 100hp's of damage had been delivered to him. I tried posting his name some weeks back to see if anyone else had heard of him or 'anything' that would tell me who he is. He must be some sort of AVATAR to the God of Thieves or something. Yes, his weapon kills with one attack, and can even kill someone on the other side of a room.
BTW, he does team up with you and helps you fight Bohdi if you ask the Shadow Master for assistance with the final Bohdi/fight quest. In my first time thru BG1 I teamed up with him and some thieves for this quest. ALL of the other thieves died, cept him of course. I kept my cusor on him to see if he ever got attacked, injured, *anything* -he never did. He even killed Bohdi (took the 'killing' blow' that is).
Suggestion, don't team up with anybody for that Bohdi/Fight quest if you want XP, she's worth 91K.
dragon903 Tue, 3rd Jul '01, 2:48pm their must be a way to defeat this deadley man
first of all i should summon a pit fiend
because he is immued to all attacks
Zorac Tue, 3rd Jul '01, 3:09pm Since you are digging up old threads. How about his one: http://www.sorcerers.net/ubb/Forum2/HTML/002124.html
Forget about Arkanis. He's there for you not to screw up the storyline.
Lokken Tue, 3rd Jul '01, 4:01pm http://www.sorcerers.net/ubb/Forum2/HTML/002772.html <-- here is some more specific information on arkanis garth. As for the vamps or thieves, I think you should try the one you haven't tried.
Jack Funk Tue, 3rd Jul '01, 5:10pm Azarial,
Siding with the vampires is considered evil, siding with the thieves is considered neutral/good. You may wish to choose your path based on the way you are roleplaying.
Extremist Tue, 3rd Jul '01, 5:38pm There is only one way to defeat Arkanis - by cheating.
First you have to make him vulnerable like I spammed here: http://www.sorcerers.net/ubb/Forum2/HTML/002859.html
Then cast on your main character Cleric Spell called Death Ward (level 4) - while it is active his ultimate sword can't kill you with only one stroke.
And then you kill him. Cheater.

Please, do not post this on another boards.
