Imoen, definitely.
Not only did she do a massive amount of damage with a bow, especially at the beginning of the game, she's a char that grows on you as well. You actually care for her, not unlike some others that you just say **** em (excuse my French) if they die and get a new one.
Or maybe that's just me?

Imoen, apart from her impressive archery talent, you can choose how she develops her thieving skills as you get her at level one right at the start of the game and she does grow on you. And she can dual class as a mage which can be very useful I find.
Although I dont just say **** it when Minsc or Vicona dies either, the rest of the characters I might, but not them.

Shar-Teel, because in a curious way she's right.

Kivan the loner that he is, and avenging the death of his wife. plus he just kicks arse w/ a bow or halberd.

Probably Sarevok. He rocks. For an NPC, I liked Tiax, he wasn't that great at anything, but he was cool. And they way he was mentioned in the credits, pure genious! "Tiax rules, make way!"

Edwin has a damn impressive personality too

Mine is Coran -- he is a killer backstabber, especially when you equip him with both the Boots of Speed and the Gauntlets of Ogre Strength. He has a suave personality too, though a tad irresponsible in his dalliances...

Xzar is defintley my fave character. I guess his slightly homicidal antics make up for his lack of hit-points (I'm sure they must be fixed to ALWAYS be poor, even for a mage), but his stats are pretty good really. And he's a necromancer, and they rock. And if you reach Baldur's Gate those guys upstairs in the Sorcerer's Sundries reveal Xzar is a Zhent agent. Oh yeah, he's got a brilliant voice as well. Shame Montaron is a bit of a loser then really!

Ajanis, and the way he stubbornly clings to his honor above all else.
Although I wish they could have come up with something a little more original than "my honor is my life", which they ripped off from Dragonlance. Some eerie chanting as he charged into battle would have been cool.

I'm soory, but I despise Khalid. When I got frustrated, I used to save my game, go back and pick him up, then have him killed in all sorts of ways. When I felt better I would re-load and pick up. Twisted I know, but what are you gonna do? He's just so WHINY!

My fave was Imoen. She was just the kickin-arse archer, and you got to choose her thief skills right from the start. I like KHALID too because you can make sure he has high hit points. I hated Garrick personally, and I would have my sadistic pleasure by having him killed in awful ways. He also is hillarious when he fails a morale check. Jaheria sucked too, but I had her executed by Khalid so it didn't matter :)

Albert. He was too hyped! When he changed into the Naycodemon and gated away, if you were quick enough, you went with him to the Nine Hells. Bloodly crazy battles. My swords where swinging, my magic crackling, my arrows flying. Oh no, wait. I didn't use arrows in BG1, only cowards use them and my party is nothing of the sort. I have a few cowards in BG2 though because it's a little tougher and it's mostly Nalia anyhow ;) Albert. Yup, never forget him and the trip he took me on.

Xan (<--is that his name??)I loved his end-of -the-world attitude, but I didn't keep him for long as i wanted to make room for another character, besides the fact that he was depressing all the others!!

I just can't get enough of Minsc! How could you not like someone with lines like: "Squeeky wheel gets the kick!" and "Minsc leads, swords for everyone!" Plus that funny noise that Boo makes when you click on him. GREAT CHARACTER. Most of the NPC's in BG1 were not made up out of nowhere but actualy D&D characters that Bioware people played used in their personal pen and paper games. Think of that the next time you play the game.

In that case whoever played Khalid must have got volenteered lots to open doors, fight off dangerous enemies without weapons and armour etc... ;)

My favourite character (apart from my own who i call Majikus) is Minsc. With his funny speeches he just makes me crack! Especially with "you point, I punch"

Does everyone in Candlekeep apart from the heros and the bloke in charge of candlekeep get turned into dopplegangers?

My fav is Coran. He´s a real great archer and a good thief, too. (it´s practical to have him AND Imoen...one can find traps, one can open locks). The only thing I find a bit confusing about him is his saying: "Wie gut ´ne Frau zu sein" (German version perhaps badly translated) which means "How good it is to be a woman".
Yeslick is quite cool, too.

Coran!

My favorite character would have to be Edwin. Not only does he have a funny personality, but DAMN look at all the spells he gets! I also like Shar-Teel. Nothing like having her shoot up Noober or Lord Binky with that light crossbow of speed! I dispise Ajantis, the filthy paladin. I always insult him and kill him. It's a lot of fun. I also hate Khalid, who is a coward, and has less HP than my main character, who is a bloody Druid. My current party is made up of those two NPCs and the driud. I also like Xzar, he's really fun, but I missed him this time around.

I kinda like Eldoth Kron. He is hardly the most useful NPC around (well, actually, he sucks), but he is quite a character all the same. Self-obsessed, scheming little bugger...

I also like Alora, the halfling thief you find sneaking about in the Hall of Wonders. Cheerful, curious and an excellent thief.

Edwin, for his personality, manipulation of others, strive for power and seeing others as expendable assets.

I think everyone rock's. Gawd I would love to play one of them in "real" D&D. A shame you can only have 6 persdons in your party.

My favorite character by far was Yeslik. I'm surprised no one has mentioned him yet, but I guess he wan't to popular for those on this board. Unfortunately, he was buggy, but he was my favorite while he lasted.

What do you mean buggy? How so? I haven't tried them all but I really like Edwin and Xzar.

Mine's Imoen. She's great with a short bow, has excellent thief skills that you can choose from L1 and you can dual class her to a mage. All in all a great character to have in your party.

Re: Yeslick being buggy, some have reported that he behaves like Noober and keeps on asking to join the party over and over when they try to drop him from the party... something like that. Can't quite remember now.

If I were only going to take one character along with me for the entire game it would probably be Minsc. My second choice would be Kivan.

Edwin is simply the best. I just can't play without him. Kivan, Xzar and Viconia are also great.

He may be dull, but I still think Khalid is very efficient. Imoen is a close second. Not so much for her skills, but because of her personality and her relationship with the PC.

As far as personality goes, Yeslick is certainly one of my favorites. After finally learning to take advantage of Imoen's thieving skills, I learned to appreciate her. Had I to rank my favorites/least favorites... it might go something like this:

Kivan's just neutral; Coran's not usually worth picking up. Never played through w/evil oriented party, so never was too interested in most of the evil characters. I tried to get rid of Khalid and Jaheira as soon as I could get another decent cleric to join. Quayle just has to hit the bottom since he upsets Yeslick with his attitude.
