That sea captain is offering to take me to surface or take the portal to the Underdark. If I pick "go to surface" do I lose the Underdark quest? What "blade" is he carrying... he's mentioned it thrice. I hate to miss ANYTHING so please give me a hint what each choice will bring. Also, what do I do with these Mithril Disks? I've got 17 of them! Thanks! This board rocks!

If you go through the portal, its the underdark at once. If you travel by ship, its the underdark again, but after a while. So, if you dont wanna miss anything, take the ship.
Also, take the blade from the cap'n. Its a part of a VERY good weapon.

The mithril tokens can be used in the strange device on the last floor of the asylum.
The device disperses "quality footwear" for tokens, the more tokens You put in, the better the footwear...
Oh and: while the blade is indeed part of a nice weapon, taking it also comes along with some minor extra fuss...

Dagnabbit! I went through the whole Undersea and am well into Underdark and I didn't see that shoe machine back at the Asylum! Still have 17 tokens. Was it in the actual Asylum or was it back in the Vampire's Maze/Test?

It was in the maze test, near the kobold area.
