I have just completed BG2 for the first time and i cannot believe how easy was whacking Irenicus in Hell  - i am playing without any mods... The fights in Spellhold and Suldanessalar were much toughter (still, the latter was nowhere as tough as i expected).

Now, can somebody please advise me - what mods are out there that would add new areas and quests and provide relatively lengthy and interesting gameplay? Any preferences that people here have? Thanks.

try insane difficulty , no cheats and weak people.

Otherwise I can only suggest browsing through SP for any mods that grab your interest.

Try adding new NPCs or perhaps taking a shot at making a mod yourself.

You could always use Shadowkeeper to hack his stats and give 1,000 hp or so. Now that would be a challenging fight.

Wes Weimer's Tactics mod includes some good new battles and improvements. You can read its instruction and get it from http://www.cs.berkeley.edu/~weimer/bgate/tactics.html

This weimer tactisc made the last battle almost impossible for me.

I think it wasnt what it was supposed to be as it summoned way too many powerful monsters. Only my Shapeshifter managed to survive no matter how many times i tried.
Others are weaklings compared to him ;)

I'm quite certain it was not meant to be that hard. My game was heavily loaded with incompatible mods anyway so its no wonder it didnt work as it should.
There were lots of monsters most noticably: a dragon harder than Firkraag, a lich (tougher than normal), few fighters, unlimited undead creatures (i dont recall excatly which).

If anyone installed this could he tell what does it really add?

Ppz: Do NOT get "The Darkest Day"(it's an unofficial mod). It sucks  ! It's full of problems.
But I think a new version was releasd that fixes these problems. I'm not sure.

Thanks all for the advice. I have downloaded the Darkest Day, but now i think maybe i should hold off installing it. I have version 1.0.3 - is that still very buggy?

I have also got Epic Endeavours (or something like that) - is that any good? Thanks.

Epic Endeavours isn't compatible with a lot of BG2 mods. As for whether it's any good, it's one mod I'm still getting around to playing.

I only know that The Darkest Day is FULL of problems.
I was going to tell you to activate the Heart of Fury mode. I think I spend too many hours playing IWD(1&2)

You can get a Heart of Fury mod for BG1 but I don't know whether anyone has got round to doing the same for BG2.
