i need to know.. wich is the best? i say assasin. i have heard good arguements all around. i have beaten the game 3 times with my infamous assasin. i am not dissing the raw force of a high lev cleric or sorceror( wich are better then mages bye far...) so im asking you... wich is you personaly best. then there is the raw hitting powe4r of a paladin.. wich is even greater after killing that stuck up dragon....
see other post for how to easily kill dragon...

A sorceror can easaly kill any of the other three.

.... and as well can a well played assassin or paladin kill a sorcerer, it depends on the player - not the class or kit  There are even morons around who get killed with an all-25 stat char and even winder why
It depends on what you prefer, since you're now familiar with the game you might enjoy to play a spellcaster and might like the micromanagement involved. On higher levels clerics are surprisingly effective, especially in melee. Of course, a sorcerer's huge number and variety of spells also is very powerful. However, there's nothing bad aboud good old traditional hack'n'slash :D, so a paladin (I favour the cavalier) is always a good choice :)

After the one backstab, he will be easily minced by the other classes. The sorcerer is the only one who will be killed outright by the backstab, which is why any sorcerer worth his salt has that overpowered stoneskin spell on all the time.
Unless this is on a horrendously low level, it'll be either a cleric or a sorcerer (depending on spell selection), as spellcasters in AD&D are 'slightly' better than other classes at high levels. On low levels the paladin would probably win. (Or the cleric, if that hold person gets through.) I prefer mages anyway, sorcerers are too restricted.

i think that you can't compare a Sorcerer with an Assassin with a Paladin and a cleric.
They are COMPLETELY different classes

But the argument is dumb and pointless.

tbr is right
it all depends on your playing style.if you just want to point/click while slurping your beer then any fighter class is for u!however i prefer depth, otherwise you may as well have six barbarians and off you go!!

Most classes are well balanced. It all depends on who you meet and how you play. Assassin I can't recall playing, but when fighting a barbarian or a protected mage, your *7 modifier is pretty useless, but then again if your mage has no longer got any spells and gets ambushed you might prefer the paladin etc.
Playing with fighters and healers speeds up the game, because you hardly need to rest, and because combat is straigtforward.
