View Full Version : Multi and dual class characters
I love bg2 Wed, 9th Jan '02, 10:11am what would be the best type/combination/race?I think human kesai mage as they can cast time stop and imprisonment plus all other defense spells (with stoneskin your a walking sheilded tank ;) then use whirlwind and most enimies will die easily. any other ideas would be appreciated thanks
Lord Sarevok Wed, 9th Jan '02, 3:15pm Uhhhh, another topic like this. There are many great classes, and I don't see the point in trying to create one uber-powerful character that does everything himself. All classes are equally good if played by an experienced player, backed up by a balanced party. But I'm sure you already knew this.....or maybe you didn't ;).
The Kensai/Mage seems powerful, but although he can wear Robes, he can't wear bracers, helmets, and shields. There are many items like the bracers of ac 3, gauntlets of weapons expertise, ect, ioul stones, shield of balduran that the Kensai/Mage will never be able to wear. A regular multiclassed Fighter/Mage will always be advancing as a fighter so I believe if you have the expansion pack he'll be much better than a Kensai/Mage and still be able to use all of those items. Also Kensai/Mages are restricted to being Human, which isn't fun at all. I've never tried a Kensai/Mage myself, because they look like a really chessy kit.
Also, you'd have to dual class at level 12 to be effective, and which is a very big hassle, while all a regular multiclassed fighter/mage has to do is pick a class.
Single classed characters are just as good as any multi or dual class so keep that in mind as well. While you're at it do a search for this, it's the little white button on the top right :).
Jack Funk Wed, 9th Jan '02, 5:55pm First, welcome to the site. It is a fun place and most people are friendly.
About your character, that sounds like an excellent choice. I used to always play as a ranger, but this time through (just finished BG1 with the character) I am playing a Halfling Fighter/Thief. Great fun!
Lord Sarevok, you have rehashed every old topic since you arrived at this site. Now you are complaining (quote "Uhhhh, another topic like this") because a new person is doing the same? Please.
Alienboy Wed, 9th Jan '02, 6:19pm Mage/Theif/fighters are great if u have elven mail and the effort to go to the extra experince. Just use a experince cap remover and find a good place to get heaps of experince. Go on heaps of quests too.
Lord Sarevok Wed, 9th Jan '02, 10:02pm I wasn't aware that I posted topics when there was a similar one on the same list :).
Be friendly Mr. Jack Funk, and I will try to be as well.
I love bg2 Thu, 10th Jan '02, 10:18am kensai's can acctualy wear certain helmets like the ion stones and rings and then theres weapons that give ac bonuses and the the single weapon style gives you extra protection like the scimitar defender just to name one there mage skills let them cast spirit armor and then theres blur that can be (+3 cumulative ac bonus) but barring magic my f/m got -5 ac and in tob i also have a kensai/thief with use any item ability think of how much damage you could do with a holy avenger with that class
Lord Sarevok Thu, 10th Jan '02, 3:22pm Um, I really didn't understand a word of that but what I was trying to say is that in the end a multiclassed fighter/mage will be a better fighter anyway, so the Kensai/Mage kit is worthless unless you're looking for a better MAGE.
Ragusa Thu, 10th Jan '02, 3:54pm I love bg2,
how about using punctuation marks ? I have to admit I didn't really understand why you wrote ...
IMO multiclass chars are better in ToB than in SoA and dc chars are better in SoA than in ToB since there the better combat abilities and the ability to have both classes high level abilities comes in handy. In SoA you have a very good char with a dc fighter-mage, in ToB he'll only be a better mage. I actually "tweaked" an elven mc kensai-mage and I'm quite happy with it - besides: the cloak of the aprentices has AC-3 and is the best robe for kensai-mages who want to melee.
As for use any item and dc kensai-thiefs ... this doesn't belong to this forum - these are ToB questions.

Lukki Thu, 10th Jan '02, 4:01pm The usefulness of a character class depends on who you are fighting.
Lord Sarevok Fri, 11th Jan '02, 4:08am A MULTICLASSED kensai/mage, well that's another story all together :).
I'm gonna start 2 more games one with a multiclassed wizardslayer/mage and the other with a kensai/mage.
Wizardslayer/Mages actually do make sense as a class, it's a mage that's really jealous of other mages and wants to be the best mage in the realms! He'll be evil and elven of course  Muhuhahaha!. And I'll be going solo with both of these guys.
I love bg2 Fri, 11th Jan '02, 5:17am how do you get a multi class kensai/mage? I know it involves editing or somthing like that but what do you do?

Lord Sarevok Sat, 12th Jan '02, 7:35am Two options that I've been using so far with the program "Shadow Keeper", which of course you can easily find on this site:
1. Start with a Fighter/Mage(multiclassed obviously) then change his/her kit to Kensai using Shadow Keeper. I think you'll have to level up once to gain your Kensai ability to have all attacks do maximus damage(the name escapes me, I rarley play with Kensais)
2. Start with a Mage, then change his/her class to fighter/mage and make kit Kensai. You'll have to change proficencies as well, so number one is probably easier...but if you want to be able to pick a few level 4 spells do this instead...great pick is the very rare minor sequencer...
Actually, now that I think about it...you could make any class and do number two, only reason for making either a mage is so you can pick some spells to memorize....
If you want a multiclassed specialist mage simply make it the appropriate class such as fighter/mage and change the kit to whatever specialist you want.
Lazy Bonzo Sat, 12th Jan '02, 11:04pm The ability is called Kai.
I started a dc kensai/mage game and i just got bored of it because i was too powerful Mu-haha-haaa-ha.
StressedE Sun, 13th Jan '02, 12:50pm Personally I am a great fan of the fighter lv9 dualed to cleric for SoA. dual him later with xcap remover or ToB
