I defeated irancus in the asylum, but I didn't use my mitril coins, to get boots of speed, is there a way I can get back to the machine? Btw what does crystal shard and the paitings do?

I don't believe there's a way back beside reloading.

The paintings open the walls with the corresponding mural on them.

The Crystal Shard, I forget, but I think you need it in order to escape.

The crystal shard is automatically used with the hand to escape from the first level.
