Just wondering if anyone uses particular weapons or weapon types for their characters to give them a little more depth. Well, as much depth as you can get in BG really.

Valeria Silenthand my mage thief that i'm using just now is a dual weilding dagger user who uses throwing knifes when she attacks froma range.

My other character, who i admittedly use a lot, Vermillion, a fighter thief uses short swords and short bows.

Anyone else use the same kinda weapons as much as they can for a style thing?

my character is a master of blades, using any forms of swords, (allmost), bastard, katana and long sword. Dual wielding them for extra pleasure :p

My beastmaster uses (of course) a quarterstaff and a bow.

My evil fighter uses a halberd or a longsword with shield.

My halfling bounty hunter uses a short bow and most bladed weapons a thief can use, preferably katanas.

My conjurer uses a quarterstaff and throwing daggers.

I created a halfling kensai too, using two shortswords. Will probably get back to him later.

I always like my Dwarf Fighter with a big 'ol axe. Something that is just right about that!

I tend to associate two-handed-swords (namely Lilarcor, and then Carsomyr) with Paladins; scimitars with druids (and drow elven rangers :D). I'm also tending to associate Melf's Minute Meteors with my Sorcerer these days, with the Boomerang dagger coming in a close second.

Horned Reaper, my beserker is a specialised halberd user

Peeb, my bile demon barbarian dual wields flails, has cloudkill as innate ability and is immune to poison and acid

Ive recently started a game with a diminutive Chaotic Neutral elven fighter-mage called Boris who refuses to fight with any weapons smaller than himself (he's currently specialised in Double handed swords, halberds and quarterstaves with slots to be filled later in Long Bows and Two-handed weapons) due to his acute penis envy.

Whoa Will, too much Psychology for you. I admit I go with the looks good theme (i.e. If I duel wield it's with both straight swords or both curved.) So I would never dual a long sword and a katana, too tacky for me. But I have done katana and scimitar. Likewise I like to keep blunt and bladed weapons away from each other (i.e. dual wield mace with flail not mace with bastard sword)

Yeah, it's too bad there aren't more good maces around. Minsc looks really cool dual-wielding two maces.

The Mace of Destruction is cool, but the +2 maces and so forth just don't have style. (-: The swords and some of the axes are much cooler looking.

Hmm.. Another spam thread. Oh, well - Why not?
I´m currently playing with a human male sorcerer and he´s using a quarterstaff.
Wow! Interesting for you to know? I think not.

I have started a gnomish fighter/illusionist whom I plan to use slings and returning throwing axes.

What is your gnome's alignment? I love throwing axes, and there are some goods ones for both good and bad guys.

My choice of weapons depends on char:

-My best dc fighter-thief Radek of Boktor had both grandmastery in daggers (boneblade & firetooth) [for backstabbing] and katanas (C'Fury - what else) [for serious melee] using single weapon style. He was basically a melee only char, and rarely used throwing daggers as ranged weapon. The best backstabber and about te most versatile char I ever had.
-My halfling mc fighter thief Bragomil used scimitars (belm & kashiko's wakizashi) [for both melee & backstabbing] in single weapon style and shortbows (tansheron's bow & gesen's bow) as his ranged weapon.
-My kensai-mage Radegast used quarterstaffs (staff of the magi & staff of rhynn) and daggers (as ranged weapon). He was thorougly awesome.
-My halfling cavalier Sir Camaris (the second one after Sir Donaldus) mainly uses longswords (Namarra) and flails (flail of the ages) in single weapon style. I later added bastard swords, katanas and maces. He was absolutely unstoppable and his saving throws were excellent ... he was absolutely immune to mindflayers psi-attacks without protections.

I had started this post with the idea of getting feedback about types of weapons in mind, not actual specifics like naming the weapons you use all the time. After all, you can't actually even get the equaliser until chapter 6 for example. Was just wondering about character preferences in the style of weapons and ways of using those styles.
Ragusa, i really enjoyed reading your post especially, and the way you mention the weapons you particularly favoured was cool. I always love to hear about how ppl make their characters that little bit different, keep it up :).

for me (my sorcer) I always carry the elemantal staffs. apart from thunder, of course.
I do have the staff of the magi but I dont like it for some reason. I want my mage to look normal, other than flashing :)
also the boomerang dagger is good.
ok, now its styles of weapons you want. well, as seem as theres not many (maybe even none) good, alingend staffs, I made up my own. read below.
please note that this weapon is fictous and not real. Id possibly make it but I dont know how :)
---------------------------------------------
Staff of the blue Mage:
Can Luanch A fireball 3 times per day
Improve Haste 1 time per day
Protection from evil 4 times per day
Info: The staff of the blue mage can only be used by lawful-good aligned mages. This staff is usually presented when blue mages have reached a good enough status to overcome almost any injustice. How it got so far into amn is a mysterie, but rumors say that if any evil-aligned mages try to use it, a curse will slowly kill them each day until a 'remove curse' spell is cast.
damage: 1d6 +3
crushing
evil monsters (not including dragons or other strong creatures) must make a save v.s death or be utterly destroyed
---------------------------------------------
If anyone is wondering why I made this up, its beacuse I roleplay my character as a blue mage. Info on blue mages here:
The blue mage sect is a group with the goal to wipe all evil of the face of faerun. they are noticed by thier colours, which are light blue or dark blue (light for my character) with the seconadary colour of dark green (which is also my cahracters)or light green. they are sworn enimies to red mages (including edwin, but I just HAD to have him in my party. dont ask me why, but I just LOVE his voice and his sarcasm. also I can make fun of him when he turns into a girl ;) ). They also have another sect to help them out: the blue kinghts. blue knights have the same colours abd the same goals, but they are fighters and paladins.
all races are allowed into the blue knights and mages, but it is mostly ruled by humans.

playing tabletop wargames (or any wargames)like the 'games workshop' range and any other tolkien-esque games (lord of the rings wargame out soon!!) you can conjure up all sorts of backgrounds and weapon preferences.

my elf fighter is based on the general of my High Elf army in a game called 'warhammer' (agames workshop game) and in this game he likes big 2h swords and some decent armour.

hes the leader in my game of bg2. i tooled him up real good. he also has a grand mastery in 2h swords!!! obviously enough his favourits weapon is, in fact, the 2h sword.
