well, I pronounce it like this [i don't know how to make the phonix symbols, so just do it like in the example words)
A (as in apple)
th (as in that)
kat (just like cat)
la (as in luluby)

Ath-Cat-La is the best way to describe it.

BTW: If you're having trouble pronouncing that, just wait till you get to the elven city... :rolling:

I go with the 3 syllable approach that Kitrax posted.

How often do you find yourself saying the word aloud anyways? :)

If you open up the the .bif files, Viconia says it first thing on her romance. It's the very first romance dialogue on her.

"Sooooooooo. What brings you to Amn? Athkatla?..."

How do you know it's not Ath-Cot-La? I always thought it was like that. Also, is the a in the last syllable pronounced "lay" or "la"?

@Farthy:
Viconia has above average intelligence and superior wisdom. I think we can trust her pronunciation. :)

Suldanesslar is easy compared to some other names in the game... Solaufein and Swirfneblin make good tongue twisters, and saying Draconic names over and over again can cause acute speech defects. ;)
But frankly, some names are better off mispronounced. Viconia, example, is pronounced vie-cone-ya. IMO, vi-con-ya sounds much better.

Draonic name? you mean something like "Ysuilljukl'kolig" I know what you mean... Also Have you ever tried to pronounce a Pollish name correctly (without knowing the language duh)
It's realy hard since many many letter do not have the same pronouciation than the english one.

No disrespect meant to pollish... :p

PS: woo-hoo! my 230th post!

Ah, but Gantul, we must remember Viconia is a Drow. They tend to have that lispy voice. (That is especially annoying in IWDII!!) Yes, I know that she has been with surfacers for a long time, but she still retains some of her Drowish background. Still, I think that she is the best source for this question. But the best sources aren't always the most accurate.

Does Jahiera also say it whilst romancing? For some reason I think she does.

I dont usually sylabalise a word before I say it or read it, so I found myself saying it as
Ath - Kath - a
with all a as short vowels.
Yeah,I am prety bad at pronounciation, :o dont even try to get me to say Nitzanderthal, or whatever hes called, hell it wasn't untill The return of the King until I started saying Gimli, instead of Gilmi. :o
