They can wear Elven Chain and Thieves armour and there is a table in the SoA handbook telling you how many spells you get

They can wear equipment that is thieves only or mages only.

Right Paddy, here we are.
1) Thief/Mages can wear Elven Chainmail, Drow ChainMail, and Dark Elven Chain. They can cast spells while wearing these, and use all thieving abilities.
Although they suffer a -20% to Pick Pockets, -10% to Stealth, -5% to Open Locks and Find/Remove Traps. This however, is better than most armours. (p125 in the Bg2 Manual)
2) Mage/Thieves, Fighter/Thieves and Cleric/Thieves can all wear Thief/Only equipment. As long as it's THIEF ONLY equipment. So they can not use items only available to Assassins for example.
3) I presume you mean at Mage level 18. At level 18, they will get the following:
Level 1: 5
Level 2: 5
Level 3: 5
Level 4: 5
Level 5: 5 }p121 in Manual
Level 6: 3
Level 7: 3
Level 8: 2
Level 9: 1
Although remember you ahve to have at least 18 INTelligence to be able to cast level 9 spells. p118

I hope that helped you, i've tried to answer most adequately. :)

Eh? But Nalia and Imoen don't seem to be having problems (they both have 17INT IIRC)

What? I can't even mention ToB because this is the SoA forum?:whoa:

[Yes, that is correct, no mentioning ToB in the SoA forum - BTA]

People, try to stick to the topic, and leave the moderating to the moderators. The last 4 (now 5) posts have had nothing to do with the topic.

Back on topic;
Padine you actually use vocalize?
I personally never use that spell, especially not if I'm wearing a nice shiny necklace.
On level 7 I always prefer Hakeashar over efreeti.

Haheashar? Why?Efreeti are stronger. They may not show it in their spell book but they can cast tuns of fire magic.Yes,I do use vocalise bacause I think that you can use youre neck slot allot better.

StressedE, Vocalize is so very useful in cases. If you're solo-ing a Mage/Thief; Vocalize as a near-neseccity. What if you're silenced? Then you're in trouble alright!!!
And Paddy's Right, the Necklace slot can be used a lot better.
Hmm...I've now got to the Underdark with me Mage(14)/Swashbuckler(9) DualClass. That's decent Fighting ability with good casting ability.
Here are the Stats and Equipment:

Alurea
Human Female Swashbuckler/Mage
STR 14 (21 due to Girdle)
DEX 18
CON 16
INT 18
WIS 12 (I wont be using Limited Wish then)
CHA 16
Long Swords +
Bows +
Darts +
Katanas + (for Dakkon's Zerth Blade)

Neck: Amulet of Power/Sensate Amulet
Head: Pale Green Ioun Stone
Back: Cloak Of Non-Detection
Body: Robe of the Good Archmagi (not enough GP for Vecna's :()
Ring1: Ring of Protection +2
Ring2: Ring of Regeneration
Belt: Giant's Girdle
Weapon1: Dakkon's Zerth Blade
Weapon2: Dart Of Wounding
Spare Weapons: Targalash +2 (bow) and Blade Of Roses +3 (long sword)

I've got the Pommel Jewel of the Equializer...does anybody know where I can get the Blade/Hilt?

As you can see, i've got a decent lineup there, and due to the Girdle, i get strength 21, giving me +4 to THAC0 and +9 to damage. Coupled with the Swashbuckler bonuses at level 9, I've got +3 to hit and damage there as well. -3 to AC too.

Not bad, not bad.

You won't get the blade and hilt until the Underdark, but they're both in there somewhere :)

[EDIT]
IIRC, the hilt is with the Mind Flayers and the blade is with the Beholders.

[Note to BTA] Yeah i know, but where? I think it's the Blade in the Mind Flayer Lair right? I've never wanted the Equializer, but after Padine's ramblings abou the 'Pommel the Eqilizer' i thought i'd check into it! ;)

[edit] Thankyou :)

Really? I thought the blade was... somewhere else in the underdark, the hilt is with the mindflayers isn't it?

Fritz

The hilt of the equalizer is in the Mind flayer's Lair, the blade is in the Beholder Cave or vice versa, i don't remember exactly.

I really can't think of a better necklace?

DeBhaal Stasion

Blade is with the Beholders, Hilt is with the Mind Flayers, I checked. :)

As to the Necklace, I always get it, and put it on, especially with a Mage/Thief, the -1 To Spell Casting Time, really helps in some situations ;)
And I personally cant think of any better necklace

And I thought the Sensate Amulat was only allowed to Clerics :hmm:

Errol

Well... I put the sensate amulet in just in-case I decide to play ToB when I install it again.... you know *cough*ToB-Thief-Power*cough* ;)
But the Amulet of Power is good enough anyday!
