I suppose I should say there are potential spoilers here.

I've played through the game a number of times and having just finished the Windspear Hills quest I return to the city and am ambushed by the following group: Sir Branet Al-Thor, Sir Jolus, Sir Laren, Sir Beverus, Sir Paritin, and Alhelor. A tough little group for a sorc without a magic license, Minsc, Mazzy, Viccy, and Jan. My question is who the hell are they? First time I've come across them. My only thought is that there was a screw up with the game and I didn't get credit for the old man (whose name escapes me) talking to the Paladins after the fight with the orcs/paladins in the Hills. Anyone know? I suppose I'll have to lure them into a building. TIA

I should think if the computer didnt record you talking to the old guy or you didnt go and see him in the first place, then he wouldnt have explained the misunderstanding to the paladins and they would thus be after your blood for killing some of them.

I think your talking about the fallen paladins.A guy in the Radient Heart Temple gives you a quest to kill them.

Guards approach. Obviously word of your misdeeds have reached the authorities.

Does this sound familiar? Misdeeds?

Two reasons can be here:
1. Your reputation is below 4. Suffer.
2. You haven't met Garren in his cabin and promised him to bring his child back.

Either work on your reputation, or return to Windspear hills and tell Garren you'll save his child. Then you'll be safe.

Hint: You can actually avoid that "ambush" if you cast invisibility on your party BEFORE you walk the streets, and they won't see you so they won't attack you. ;)

Nah, it isn't the fallen paladins. I've done that quest and know where they are. I'm not even sure I can do that quest as a sorc. I've never run across these characters before (they only appeared in the slums) and I was wondering if maybe my game didn't record the old guy as talking to the paladins to make everything ok even though he said he did (he left and daugter was kidnapped etc.) I suppose it is moot because they're dead now but as a good aligned character I didn't feel right about slaying a bunch of paladins over a misunderstanding that was supposed to be taken care of. Thanks for the ideas though.

I must've been typing as you were Extremist. My rep is 18. I agreed to find Garren's (thx for the name) kid, did so, and returned to be justifiably fawned upon. I was then attacked by that group in the slums but I don't recall that message and I don't have a saved game to check it out. Poor forethought on my part, thx.
