View Full Version : Imoen's babble
Caliban Wed, 5th Sep '01, 8:13pm Starting yet another SoA game, as an Archer this time. (I love it! Excellent aim and damage!)
My complaint this time is about Imoen. When sifting thru the multitude of objectives in Irenicus' stronghold for the tenth time, I am downright sick of Imoen's melodramatic speeches.
Every time you move a finger in the mage's stronghold Imoen starts talking about "not looking back" and other soap-opera level nonsense.
I really think they could have put in a modifier that says: "If the player has completed Irenicus' stronghold once, Imoen will never talk again"
Not only are Imoen's conversations boring, they take 5 to 10 clicks a piece to get thru, and she says the same stuff even if you respond with a scathing and sarcastic response...
Anyone else out there find her to be as annoying as I do? Or am I too sensitive to this stuff?

Invoker Wed, 5th Sep '01, 8:38pm oh yeah .)
I've started the game about 10 times to test some different kits and those dialogs (btw imoens dialogs all throughout the game suck imo) plus the cutscenes that you can't just skip are really booring after some point.
Hmm maybe i need a new game ?
Big B Wed, 5th Sep '01, 8:44pm Tip: Don't restart so often ;)
Also, it's roleplaying. Be glad your characters talk and have something to say!!!
idoru Wed, 5th Sep '01, 8:54pm I agree with Big B.. I'm currently playing through bg1, and it's incredibly dull... I really miss my characters, they're just robots in bg1. As for Imoen's things, I found them all quite interesting the first time I played through the game.. I think that's why they're there.
Caliban Wed, 5th Sep '01, 8:58pm Heh- Well, thanks for the opinions... I remember the BG1 robots...
When compared to some of the conversations that other npcs will offer, Imoen's are shallow, boring, and long. I still hold tight to that.
BTW - Does anyone know what the deal with Imoen's belt is? I probably missed whatever conversation covers that...
Also- I've grown to love my new archer- I have Imoen cast haste on the party, herself with a short bow, me and minsc with long bows and jaheira with a sling. We all have melee weapons in case, but we can kill the toughest foes yet before they come in melee range!
Caliban :D
tjekanefir Wed, 5th Sep '01, 10:01pm I thought Imoen's conversations were really compelling the first time through. Sure, they were a little melodramatic, but if my real kid sister were in her situation, so would she be, too. (-: I no longer pay any attention to them, though, as they lose their interest after you play a few times. But that's hardly the game's fault...
Same with the cut-scenes and dream sequences. They really added to the feel for me. But by now, I just go off for a snack when they start...
Nobleman Wed, 5th Sep '01, 10:34pm Imoens belt? sure take a look here: http://www.sorcerers.net/ubb/Forum2/HTML/003120.html
or use the search engine and type "belt imoen" if you are not pleased with my chosen link. :D
Caliban Wed, 5th Sep '01, 11:22pm Ahah- A belt to prevent Imoen from Death...
I never had such a close call, so never saw the advantage of having that belt.
I wish that she kept it throughout the game... It would make her one of the best players available...!

Tiamat Wed, 5th Sep '01, 11:29pm I'll probably get bashed for this but.... If you want it *that* badly, cheat yourself a copy. But maybe you'd prefer it on your main character...? ;) :D
Lokken Thu, 6th Sep '01, 12:34am I really *HATE* Imoen's talk, I'm really not interested listening to all of it, because I have played through bg1 allready. Though everytime I play, I simply *LOVE* to hear Viconia's voice and her babble... in the dark.. hay.. and uhm... wrong forum :D :D :D

TheBully Thu, 6th Sep '01, 12:42am Well today Imoen and and Anomen had a conversation that made me laugh.
It went *something* like this:
Imoen:
I remember once a whole hundred of the Order of the Radiant Heart marched up to Candlekeep all hooded and sollem like holding some old tome. It was full of pictures of naked men and women, total filth, Im surprised the order had something like that.
Anomen:
Are it was probably a book of great evil, the order were most likely giving it to the monks for save keeping to prevent it falling into the wrong hands.
Imoen:
I had a look in it, and Windtrope gave me hell for peeking, I noticed he kept it in his room after that.
Anomen:
Silence... Vile Girl... We shall speak of this no more.
Caliban Thu, 6th Sep '01, 12:56am Heheh...
That is a worthwhile Imoen conversatin indeed...
If they need to make her out to be so childish and innocent, at least they are beginning to make it funny.
I should get a party with Imoen and Anomen together, just to see this one...

Will Thu, 6th Sep '01, 1:16am I, personally, like Imoen a lot. She can be both funny and cute and, in terms of performance, is a much better mage than I originally thought. Just click really quickly in the bits you've heard before, or put the kettle on or something. I find Irenicus way more annoying than Immie. "Remember this as you die; ever pathetic, ever fools," indeed! Such grandiose bombast can only be the result of severe Freudian repression resulting from a dodgily intimate relationship with Mummy .

Caliban Thu, 6th Sep '01, 1:30am Will- You must love the dream scenes when as Irenicus ends the dream he uselessly tortures Imoen with lightning and such...
Caliban
Will Thu, 6th Sep '01, 1:41am She's a tough lass; she can take it. Besides, half the time its the PC's malignant divine essence masquerading as her. As for Irenicus, I can sleep soundly in the knowledge that I get to beat him like the proverbial red-headed stepchild. Twice. :D :D :D
Caliban Thu, 6th Sep '01, 1:51am Haha! Good one...
Caliban
:D :D
Subra Thu, 6th Sep '01, 4:54am I usually just tell her to beat it and then she doesn't bother me till I come find her in spellhold....where I leave her.
