If you have played SoA many times (and maybe can even get through SoA solo), then why not try this for a different game.
Forget variety, take a party who are all similar.
All Druid (You/Jaheira/Cernd), all Ranger (You/Minsc/Valygar), all Berserker (You/Minsc/Korgan) or all Paladin (Trueswords allowed so, You/Keldorn/Mazzy) or all M/U (You/Aerie/Edwin/Nalia) or all cleric (You/Anomen/Viccy) etc.
You may wish to choose a fighter/magic user if you run the all M/U party, it depends how tough you want it. I would imagine almost any way you want to do it is possible, though some choices could be a little tricky.
Has anyone gone this route before ?

i did it once with all druid and i can assure you that this is the worst thing that you can do to ruin SoA.(at least with the druids)

The thought of going all druid scares me slightly, it may be some time before I risk this...

Actually, Sorcerer/Aerie/Edwin/Nalia would be pretty easy. Especially since you get clerical spells, not to mention you can specialize both Edwin and the Sorcerer and not miss any spells thanks to Nalia and Aerie's contribution. For added fun, keep Imoen later on...
Problem is, this party probably is the Ultimate in micromanagement.

yeah thats right i agree with ziad...having just wizards is going to be the ultimate challenge since you must micromanage very well your team...i will try it though my micro management is not so good

One of the most fun parties I had was an all-rogue party (one of each kit). I used SK to change the classes of those NPC's who I thought could fit the bill.

@San Ti: Actually it's not that much of a challenge difficulty wise, since spellcasters are so overpowered in 2E. It's just so tedious to have to make sure your 5 spellcasters each casting the right spell at the right time... in fact I think that with this party you'd end up using the Sorcerer and Edwin for mostly everything, Aerie for certain situations, Imoen for her thieving skills only, and Nalia... well she'll just have to hang in the back (good riddance too)
Now that I think of it, if you take an all-priest party, with Jaheira, Viccy, Anomen, Cernd, and Aerie, and with the main protagonist being a Monk... that would be pretty powerful, and probably a lot of fun to play too. Not to mention you have ALL the romance options together. Fun :)
