I'd like to see a "Scholar" class or ability. Scholars would be able to teach lower-level spells to others. It would be tied to Charisma and Lore. So a scholar with high charisma (can teach well) and high lore (knows a lot), could teach low levels spells.

Bards (my favorite class) should be able to get this ability, I say.

It's nice, but can I say that in my opinion, when you are playing 6 char group, in that probably 2, maybe 3 mages that start at good levels, Scholar wouldnt have any pupils :)

Maybe if he would be that mage which could learn all schools of magic and still gain that extra spell per level and couldnt learn some of most powerful (difficult) spells of certain schools (btw. is that the thing with "normal" mages)

total, what you said is basically a sorcerer as well.

Ah, maybe this ability would be better for BG1, where everybody is a lower level.

But, for someone (like a sorcerer) that had a limited set of known spells, it might be handy to be able to learn a few more.

I think you misunderstood me, Scorcerer can cast spells without having memorise it, I thought since noone I know plays "straight" mage, maybe schoolar would be better choice, he would still have to learn spells from scrolls and memorise them, and would have as much spells as specialised mage, of course he would need some disadvantage to balance it out.

Interesting I allways thought that It was rather unfair that Mages couldnt scribe scrolls. Maybe we should just have made that a high level ability of mages. In this way it wouldnt be random.

Very nice but it seems to be impossible:
You need someone with a high wisdom and intelligence for the lore, but also a lot of experience. How could you teach without the experience? and you have to get the exp. yourself.
Maybe you should see the scrolls and the gods as a teacher, they teach you your new abilities, spells and others.
Your level is your capacity: You don't sent a 6 year old child (low level) to university, it has to learn reading first.
If you have any questions...I understand...because it's not very clear i think. I've to admit I have been drinking tonight :D

But still, it is a nice idea!

ummm ... yeah ... that would be a great idea. You could teach everyone to death ... ;)

Actually, I got this idea from another game, Heroes of Might and Magic. The Scholar ability in that game allows one to teach lower level spells to another caster. So if you are a level3 caster, for example, you could teach level 1 spells to another caster.

In BG, this could work with one character learning a lot fo spells, and then be able to teach them to multiple others. Maybe it could also give exp to the learner. The scholar can also learn spells from another, so they become a kind of low level spell clearing house.

It's not a very heroic class, eh? I don't really think that it fits for the story either...

He did suggest that perhaps it could be a Bard ability. Which, IMO, is not a very heroic class.

I would have thought a clerical class ablity being the wisest IMO.

Special Shcolar voice pack:
told to attack - "the pen is mightier than the sword"
when being attacked - "that orc there, spit out that leg and sit down in your place"
made leader - "now class we will learn how to be killed because of bad leadership".

Hmm, I like the idea, but I'd prefer a special sort of mage that has the normal ammount of mage spells, but can write any of those spells to scroll. That way I think he would be a balanced character. anyone disagree?

and a bit off topic:
Heroes of Might and Magic III rules!

Possibly it would be a special ability for mages or bards gained through a quest. It could be called scribe and would be a 50/50 chance of the mage/bard scribing one of his spells (random) to a scroll. It would be usable only once a day and the scroll when learned by another spellcaster wouldn't give any experience. This would balance the advantages and disadvantages.

Hmm, I don't really like the idea of every character being able to learn those spells.
If it is possible for fighters to learn those spells, then why is there no store where they can learn it.
I think those scrolls shoulc be useable by anyone but that would be as far as it goes
