Having played BG2 and loving it, I decided BG1 was a no-brainer purchase. Unfortunately, I was comepletely unprepared for having my party's asses handed to them by kobolds. 2 hits and virtually any member of my party is SOL. Did anyone else experience this after beating BG2 and then starting a BG1 game?

No, i take all the whuppings i get (rare i admit ;)) in my stride, because i know that i'll be able to do worse back when the party's healed up and rested.

Kobolds? Just kobolds right? not the commandos? Never had that one i must admit. Those chill mercenaries a lot though.

Try taking a LOT of "fetch" quests in an easier area, or killing a lot of goblins so that you level up (it takes minimal experience to level up if you're only lv1). EXACTLY the same thing happened to me when I was playing the Icewind Dale Demo that came w/my BGII....

I am now replaying BG since i already finished ToB.. and yes.. it is a painful and most humiliating experience to have your ass handed to you by a mere kobold... thats why most mages.. even until the end of SoA have bout 60-70 hps only.. when my mage started.. i only got 12 Hp... bad... and well... thats why i restarted BG as a Fighter with 18 constitution to get the Fighter HP bonus...

When I restarted BG1 in february (wanted a thief for BG2) I had anguish whenever I saw those kobold commandos.

It was a whole new ballgame compared to BG2, were I had mastered my Blade (bard from bg1) to perfection and sliced anything and anyone.

In a way i long for that feeling again, you know, when you find your first +1 longsword and a wicked grin reflects back at you from the monitor.

Ah yes, BG1. I remember well many misteps and speedy anihilations. I grew so tired of seeing the withering and decaying hand. I rememeber detecting traps and seeing the red shapes, but not understanding how to disarm them so I thought I had to avoid them or just trip them! Then you get out of the mine in Beregost and face that group of bounty hunters that just cream you! Then there's the Black Talon Elite Guards or whatever, and that Bandit that farts before he destroys your party. Those were the days. Then, of course, in BG2 I remember seeing an enemy mage casting spells I had never sen before and I'm like this guys going to cream me! And, some of the enemies have healing potions of their own! In the beginning, BG2 can be pretty tough, too.

Having played BG for a long time *before* BG-2 came out I wasn't that surprised about the party level in BG-1 compared to BG-2 when I decided to play a halfling cavalier (melee weapons only) from BG-1 to ToB. Anyway, the BG-1 opponents are appropiate and after a while I got used again to play a lvl-6 char instead ot a lvl-15 one :)

ah yes.. picking up xzar, 4 hitpoints. having to go back to a church every time someone got killed to get ressurect them.. equipping your character in candlekeep with waht, 130 gp? Those were the days. I'm definitely starting that game all over again. I believe that's the way role playing is most fun anyway, with characters who can't even imagine killing a dragon, who can't figure out how to kill that damn golem in the nymph area (can't remember the name, sorry)... yes. I believe I shall start playing that game again!

If you guys played the BG Demo, you should remember Milan being at the area right outside Candlekeep. That was horrible. I died until I decided I should run, stop, shoot arrows, repeat until milan resembles an overused pincushion. And drizzt! I used two wands of monster summoning to take him down. how ridiculous!

1. in playing BGI, missle weapons are the key. just hang back and fire with bows and slings until you get enough hp's to melee up close. but, imo, this teaches you how to really play and develop strategy.

2. Ragusa, a hafling cavalier? You had to use some form of ShadowKeeper to make this class, no? I dont call that hacking, like some do in jacking up stats to 25. Any problems with doing this from start to finish?

Corval, I don't really understand sentence four of Nr.2 ;) .... anyway, I used TeamBG's character Control to change race and avatar. He was very much fun to play and I actually have im in ToB as a lvl-31 cavalier @ str-19 - after starting in candlekkeep @ str-17 ... it is really amazing to play a char though BG-1 ToSC, BG-2 SoA & ToB

wow, thats great. lvl 31 cavalier. bet he kicks unholy ass! I wish I had saved my character from BGI to play all the way thru. Although, he was a ranger, and after beating BGII with a ranger, I found the class a little boring at high levels. playing a kensai now to dual to a mage.

Well, after putting it off, I think I will just cruise through with a fighter. Does not seem really worth it being a mage in BG IMHO, although I will duel to a mage when I get to BG2.
Doing better though, I rerolled my stats about 150 times until I landed incredible numbers to toggle with, about 10 more points overall than usual.
