I've tested by making an Elven Fighter and a Elven Archer and have not been able to detect what bonus an elf get when using Long Swords or Bows.

Exactly what are bonuses?

In the AD&D Player's Handbook, Elves are supposed to receive a +1 to hit with longbows and longswords, but BG2 does not implement these bonuses.

As far as I know there arenīßt any special bonusses of that klind for elves in BG-2. Just as there arenīt any bonusses for halflings using slings :( ... crappy game

All witness the public degradation of kevlar0101 back to the status where he was 50 posts ago. Keywords: crap posting.

do elves get ANY bonus' other than infravision?

Haha, not Leveldrain, but Postdrain, haha
Am I glad I have that +12 Hackmaster, which grants me 100% magic resistance and immunity to Postdraining!! :D

As for the bonus elves get: They get an extra dexterity point.
I think Dwarfs are the worst characters in the game, as the get 1 point in constituion, but get a penalty on both intelligence (??) and Charisma!!
Half-Orcs are SO much better, having +1 to strength and constitution, only lacking 2 points of charisma. Who needs 18 charisma anyway, when you have the ring of human influence...BUHAHAHAHA!!!!

BTW Tal, is there no way to pass level 40, since you have 2004 posts now and still are level 40... Maybe you should use that Post-cap-remover... ;)

When you start a new game and choose for Elves the discription says: They receive a bonus for long bow/long sword..... I can't imagine they say that but don't give that bonus? I thought elves had a +1 Thaco and Damage when using Long Bow/Long Sword

Dont worry. They say also that being Priest of Lathander grants you being welcomed and celebrated wherever you go. Of course this doesnt happen! Be you Priest of lathander or Orcish Berserker it doesnt matter, people reacts to you the same.

Moreover if you charisma 18 or charisma 3 be sure it make no difference. No hints to quests if you have cha 18 no penalties if you have cha 3. Thats what we could call "quite insignificant stat", ha...

Yep, with charisma 3 you can get as much and ony of npcs you want. Charisma is redundant stat in all computer games almost. It is hard to implement. The same was in fallout.
To differ npc reaction according to your charisma either CPU should generate the dialogue himself (sounds quite impossible novadays) either designers have to make tons of if-then-else schemes and practically make some 5 conversation texts/options instead of one. Nothing impossible?
Bear in mind that a) they must cut costs b) they must finish until Christmas.
NOW 5 charisma related conversation texts/options start to sound impossible. BTW this is not a nicer graphics that will make more game copies sold. AND dont dare to say that designers owe you smthg... Thats a business pal. Be happy that they dint make this just like diablo.

Long live "Cale-t-t-oooo!"*

I'm sorry for rehashing such an ancient topic but could someone (read: Extremist, BTA, Tal) answer this simple question, yes or no. Are there any other bonuses an Elf gets besides an extra Dex point and infravision. Also, Extremist, could you, in your next fixpack include a fix for all of us much-maligned Elf NPC's so we can get bonuses in long swrd, etc.?

Well, I think you just haven't found the right topic :D ;) Take me: In this old topic I still believed that there are no racial bonuses, neither for elves nor any other race. That was wrong :)

The topic below cleared the dispute about racial bonuses by proving that the racialm bonuses are existent:
http://www.sorcerers.net/ubb/Forum2/HTML/004196.html

<LI>Elves get +1 on their THACO with l'swords, b'swords, two handed swords and longbows.
<LI>Halflings get +1 on their sling THACO

IIRC hese are about the only racial weapon bonuses in the BG series.

Hope that helped :)

Infact, Charisma did matter once for me. I had Charisma of 8 and talked to... what's his name? the one that you get a quest from Edwin to recover his documents. There were no way for me to get those, he just said something like "Bah, mindless threats" or something like that. But then I casted Friends on myself and then he was scared as....

The SoA fixpack won't include any settings that are inside ad&d PHB and not in BG2 manual or ingame descriptions.

Bioware decided to kick many ad&d things out of the game deliberately because of decision to keep the game balanced.

If I did incorporated ad&d strict rules in BG2 which Bioware left out, that would be a tweak and not fix.
