My friend has the Special edition, I have the Standard edition. He suggests installing the bonus CD on my PC.

Does anyone know for sure if I can do this without wrecking my standard installation and loosing my Build up character?

You'll be fine. All it does is slap in another merchant in the game that sells new items for you to purchase.

If you're really paranoid about it, go into your Black Isle directory and make a copy of your Saved Games folder.
