View Full Version : Pointing out the pointless.
Enthasius Thu, 31st May '01, 10:44pm I dont know why they did it, but why did Black isle 'n' the other makers have to put in rubbish spells and whatnot.
Spells like detect illusion, the 7th level confusion spell for priests, the many one rounder spells which boost minor things (such as 1st lvl priest spell bless).
Even the trap setting ability is useless (apart from people who only use it for killing dragons which several messages have been posted in complaints to) I just dont see the point of these room filling spells.
Blackthorne TA Thu, 31st May '01, 10:47pm Because not everyone has the same playing style. I'm sure there are plenty of people who found those spells worthwhile...
Nobleman Thu, 31st May '01, 10:51pm They are leftover from the adventurers early days. The days of BG1 where a 1st. level character would be happy to get a bless in a hard battle against a brow bear. Now many spells of low level seems pointless. But hey we are talking about 1-6 powermongers at level 15-20 soon around level 30-35. And Lots of MAgical items.
Some spells that aren't levelbased just gets outdated. That's all.
Enthasius Thu, 31st May '01, 10:53pm Maybe, but I dont see why confusion for priests has to be so high leveled while mages get it earlier.

Extremist Thu, 31st May '01, 11:34pm Does this sound familiar: d&d rules?
So, don't ask us why that is so unbalanced - at least looks like it.
kevlar0101 Fri, 1st Jun '01, 7:38am dont question the mighty creators of BG!!!!!!
kingius Fri, 1st Jun '01, 1:29pm Is it just me who hardly ever uses ANY second level priest spell?
Big B Fri, 1st Jun '01, 2:00pm Second level priest spells, I use Chant, Hold Person, and Slow Poison all the time, ocasionally using Barkskin, Flameblade, Resist Fire and Cold, and Spiritual Hammer. And I don't bother with goodberries in BG2, but I have in BG1. These are all helpful spells.
jester1137 Fri, 1st Jun '01, 2:18pm yeah, and why don't mages get healing spells? thats so damn unfair.
hehe it's kind of an offensive spell, and thats why the priest spell is higher. they just don't have the same kind of combat abilities at lower levels, they excel at buffs.
zort Fri, 1st Jun '01, 3:19pm Mages can heal with vampiric touch. Anyway has anyone ever found a use for magical stone? It deals the same damage as a normal sling bullet
ayecapitan Fri, 1st Jun '01, 3:25pm Hold Person is indeed used by a lot, all the time.
Magical stone, though it deals a sling bullet dmg, always hits and has no save, so can be used to um... disrupt spellcasters, like a magic missile
