View Full Version : Hitpoints
Fubini Thu, 9th Aug '01, 1:26am For the first nine or ten levels (depending on class), characters roll dice to determine their additional hitpoints at level up. The constitution bonus applies to these rolls. The question is, are the constitution bonuses still supposed to apply after level ten when the hitpoint increase is fixed?
For example, should a level 11 ranger with 17 constitution recieve 3 HP or 6 HP when he levels up to level 12?
Zaragoth Thu, 9th Aug '01, 1:14pm I think that they all get the same after lv.10
But I´m not really sure..... :p
Baldak Oakfist Thu, 9th Aug '01, 1:34pm The constitution bonus is not supposed to apply unless you get a die increase, as this is a hit die modifier. Therefor levels after the increase is no longer in dice, do not get the con bonus.
Silverblade Thu, 9th Aug '01, 1:53pm So all Rangers get 3 HP every level after level 9 (Rogues and Priests 2HP and Mages 1HP)

Tiamat Thu, 9th Aug '01, 2:15pm So in the Bhaal dream sequence, when you have to drop a stat point to enter the dream "Candlekeep", and you drop Constitution, it won't make a difference if you are past Lv9?
Big B Thu, 9th Aug '01, 2:27pm As far as getting those extra hitpoints it won't make a difference. But constitution isn't just about hitpoints, it's how healthy a character is. Constituion measures a character's fitness, health and physical resistance to hardship, injury and disease. In the back of the book, the constitution chart has a column that reads "Res. Surv." What is this and what do those figures mean?
TIN_MAN Thu, 9th Aug '01, 2:40pm Right! And with the appropriate constitution you can gain a save bonus vs. poison. For example Korgan Bloodaxe who has 19 con rolls with an additional +2 bonus vs poison!!!
Volar Blackmane Thu, 9th Aug '01, 4:59pm Res.Surv. is the percentage for Resurrection Survival. I doubt it's implemented in the BG series, though.
JohnnyRTFM Fri, 10th Aug '01, 3:12am Even if it is implemented, if your constitution is high enough that you would be getting HP bonuses you would still have at least a 94% survival rate after giving up a point so it is more or less irrelevant.
Modjahed Fri, 10th Aug '01, 1:50pm If you decrease your constitution, the game will recalculate your hitpoints from level one, subtracting all the CON bonuses.
Alternatively, when you give Girdle of Fortitude to, say, Viconia, and use it, it will add 18 hitpoints to her total.
So it is not wise to sacrifice constitution if you are a fighter, and you can do it with no harm if your are not a fighter, provided your CON is 17 or 18 (because CON bonuses for non-fighters stop at CON = 16)
Laksol Sun, 12th Aug '01, 2:03am You get faster regeneration rate for high con just like equipped with ring of reg.
