After beating BGII three times, I've finally decided to beat BGI (which I've restarted somewhere on the order of 80 times :)). Once I'm done, I'm obviously going to take him (half-elf bard) through BGII and then buy ToB. But here's the question: do imported characters (from BGI to BGII) lose their equipment? I've read that they keep it but it's spread throughout the dungeon, but I've also heard that you lose everything. Which is it?

Yes, your chars *do* loose their equipment - but that's not too bad for you'll find lots of cool stuff in BG-2 spread all over the game.

I think that you will find some of your stuff again, but not all of it and not necessarily what you wanted(not sure what items are returned or what system is used to determine what you get...maybe it's random, maybe it's your best magical equipment).

All the stuff in Irenicu's dungeon is *fixed*, just like items of your old equipment you may find later in the game ... there is no connection between the abvailability of these items and their beeing in your inventory at import.

I think that in Irencius' Dungeon, the game did mention that all your characters' equipments were lost when the party was caught.

Just be sure to get those pantaloons from BG and keep them in your inventory while importing. You will find them somewhat later in Irenicus' dungeon again and you can get some others in BG2. They will be very usefull in ToB :).

At SP in BG2/Editors, Hacks & Custom Chars (page 2) is a patch which allows you to keep all your BG1 inventory... ;)

Thanks, that answers my question (just not with the answer I was hoping for :))

Well, you could import your character after the opening scene, you will have all your goods...alot simpler if all you want is to keep your stuff, but its totally overpowered for the beginning dungeon.

A much easier way of keeping your equipment if you have imported him/her is to pause right after you hear the first scream in the cutscene at the start. This will enable you to acces your main characters inventory, and you can drop all his equipment on the floor. After you gain control of your character again, you can just pick up all his/her stuff again.
