View Full Version : Piss-off moments
Gothmog• Wed, 30th Apr '03, 2:34pm I'm playing an evil sorceress with a assasin companion. Barely out of dungeon, lvl10, low reputation, both evil.
Now, i was doing the slavers quest wiping out those guys in the ship. Entered through the sewers and had a long difficult fight. Reloaded a few times and won.
Assasin died and i summoned up a demon(scroll) to kill of most of the survivors. Ran out of the place (ran not fought) and got to the temple.
There i paid dearly (low reputation, evilness) to ressurect the assasin.
And guess what happened then?
A little, common, weak thug showed up and scored a critical hit on my 1HP assasin. Blown him to pieces ofcourse without the posibility of revival.
And my last save was naturaly BEFORE the battle
Hate'em all !!!!!
Anyway, whats your similiar most-pissed-off experience?
Loerand Wed, 30th Apr '03, 4:59pm Hehe, that sounded really HATE... I've never had such a terrible moment I think
Lukki Wed, 30th Apr '03, 5:05pm "Swords not words!"
-Minsc
Jurts Wed, 30th Apr '03, 5:52pm Anyway, whats your similiar most-pissed-off experience? Having Aerie in my party, of course.
Wordplay Wed, 30th Apr '03, 8:03pm The same happened to me too.
The most pissed off moments I experience always with the vampiric mists; those pesky little piles of... goodness have an ability to cast invicibility -immediatly-, have the level drain (the most annoying status effect in the game) and EVERY DAMN TIME they target my spell-casters first! Oh, yeah, fine; but what really pisses me off is that even if they aren´t invisible, they can just walk past my "heroic" fighters and, of course, then level drain my mages -despite stone skin or invisibility. :flaming:
The best thing is, that if I send my fighters or thieves scout ahead, they STILL target my mages -even if they were hidden to the opposite part of the map!
...Heh, and just closing the door makes those poor bastards so easy to mash into so much mush...

Gothmog• Wed, 30th Apr '03, 8:43pm Yup those mist are really incredibly annoying.
It's almost impossible to destroy them if you dont dispel their invinsibility. They dissapear in an instant casting invinsibility regardles of round check.
Best way to destroy them is obvious: Cleric ;) Blow'em to pieces
al_chewdaffi Thu, 1st May '03, 1:23am How about in the sewers and all my guys get horrored, and they run around until they're killed by kobalds
Tayja Thu, 1st May '03, 1:25am My most annoyed moment was the end of Chapter 4- Fighting Bodhi. I know now what I didn't know then--- that she can't die yet.
What made it even worse is that she wouldn't leave either. I just stayed there, hacking away for 2 realtime hours. My whole party died. It was just me hacking and her-- not dying, not leaving.
I had to do the maze all over again. I finally figured out the glitch is that I had Protection from Undead on which kept her from talking, which in turn, kept her from leaving. Arrrrgh!
Death Rabbit Thu, 1st May '03, 1:56am One time, Minsc was Dire Charmed at the end of a really tough battle, where everyone in my party had been worn down to very low hit points (like 15 and below). I'd run out of Dispel Magic and Stun spells, and he proceeded to get the luckiest critical hit run I've ever seen. He chunked my entire party - and by chunked I mean a critical hit exploding death from which there is no return - ending with my PC, all in the space of about 10 rounds. And I hadn't saved in a while, so I had to back track quite a bit.
Oaz Thu, 1st May '03, 2:56am I once beat Firkraag. Then a berserked Minsc killed the main character. Took me a while to slay the nasty dragon again.
Blog Thu, 1st May '03, 4:54am Related to the vampiric mist thing: I also hate (to a lesser degree) phase spiders that dimension door over to the weaker characters in your party, even when they are on the other side of the map.
Most annoying thing for me? Trying to hit and run against a group of gauths and beholders. Even when I think I'm out of their line of sight, they still hit me with one last beholder ray. More often than not, it is a cause serious wounds ray that saps the last ten hit points of my character.
LKD Thu, 1st May '03, 7:12am I just hate it when someone in my group gets charmed or dire charmed. On a similar note, accidently casting a fireball and having a summoned creature turn on you also packs.
Rotku Thu, 1st May '03, 9:34am The most annoying thing i found was when playing through BB2 SoA the first time. Chapter 6 i think it is. The last time u face bohdi. It the very last room where she is. I couldn't get past that. I spent months and month trying to get past and i just couldn't do it. But one day one of my brothers friends comes along (whos never played an RPG of any sort before) and beats bohdi in his first shot.
Mystra's Chosen Thu, 1st May '03, 10:36am The Darkest Day. I was playing evil, so I didn't go to Spellhold until late in the game. Anyway, long story short, TDD has alot of bugs. One of them was it wouldn't load the area outside Spellhold. I teleported myself in through the console (but I couldn't get outside... I had to teleport inside). Anyway, I couldn't get to the 'Director', so I CLUAed him in too. I went through the whole level and when I was about to face up to Irenicus, Saemon Havarian wouldn't talk to me so I couldn't go upstairs. I tried attacking Irenicus, but he wouldn't take any damage. I didn't have any previous saves, only quick-saves and auto-saves. That was the last straw. I uninstalled TDD and cursed its name to the heavens. I stopped playing BG2 after that (for awhile anyway).
Falcor Wolfbane Thu, 1st May '03, 8:29pm How about when you play through for the fist time, give all the one off quest items like the acorns and stuff to one character they get killed and you leave it all behind.
8people Thu, 1st May '03, 10:30pm When my mother wants to play or pretends to type on the keyboard, I tell her to piss off :p
Shrikant Fri, 2nd May '03, 6:54pm OK here's my exp-
Playing BG2 for the first time. Just defeated the guardian. But not before Imoen got hit bad. So I had to give her a potion of healing and one of extra-healing. Go to Irenicus mistress' room and have Imoen search for traps but she is just standin around. So I sent her to steal from the nearest chest.
And the girl walks over two traps, has green goo poured all over her, looses all hit points n dumps me for a breath of fresh air.
Where do i store all the stuff I have given her!! And of course i did not save at all so I have to do it all over again.
8people Fri, 2nd May '03, 9:11pm Actually I remember when I accidently saved over a really good game, I got annoyed than as I had to start all over again. :wail:
Stu Sat, 3rd May '03, 8:24am The Vampric Mists in Firkrags lair, Anomen got leveled drained quite a few levels and he was the only one in my party able to cast restoration and he lost the spell level because of the level drain, the last save was the Auto Save.
Anyway, what are "guardians", it is the toughest opponent my PC has killed and it was mentioned a few postes up
Ghost Sat, 3rd May '03, 11:28am The 1st time i played... Juz back from Underdark holiday. One day my cousin came over my house, i showed him how flexible the game is by hacking EVERYBODY in copper corronet. Including team mates... Juz as we laugh. I was thinking of hittin quick load. Well, that time i was playing Fallout: Brotherhood of steel. Its F6 is quicksave, F9 is quickload... while in SoA, F9 is quicksave, F12 is quickload.
Yup, u guessed it correct, i hitted F9 and threwed the game away for a long time.
Shrikant Thu, 15th May '03, 11:03pm Sorry I got the wrong monster :o

Blackhawk Fri, 16th May '03, 2:00am I was fighting the evil Kangaxx and was just ready to strike the last blow to this demi-lich form. As Minsc ran forward and hit him for a final time, Kangaxx looked towards my character.
He let all one last shot before Minsc sent him to hell. You guessed it ... even after Kangaxx died his final Imprisonment hit its mark....
(Excessive cursing) .... Reload :flaming:
Gideon Pepys Sat, 17th May '03, 2:40am I know it sounds almost backwards, but my most pissed off moment came the first time I faced up to one of BG2's legendary dragons.
I hadn't bought the game for about eight months after it came out (had too many other games on the go), so I'd heard alot on forums about how hard they were to chunk. Never read any hints, tips or spoilers, though, but I already knew what to expect from PnP.
First up was the Shadow Dragon. Big, black, breathtaking and scary. I got all my characters souped up and ready, made myself a fresh pot of coffee and was ready to rumble.
My first ever PC - and my favourite to date - was a Monk named Schichiroji (after one of the 7 Samauri). He stepped up first - hoping to rely on his high AC and magic resistance to stave off the onslaught. Not expecting success, he kicked off the proceedings by slapping the beast with a Quivering Palm.
Splat. It was over. The ****er was dead!
I know I should have been pleased, and I guess dear old Schichiroji would have been mighty relieved from a roleplaying perspective, but I have to say it was one hell of a let down, after all the pre-fight build up!
I saved the game, reloaded and had another crack, but half-way through, I thought - this is stupid -I'm actually trying to do WORSE than I did first time round!!
Needless to say, didn't get quite that lucky against Firkraag...
EDIT:
Oo! Just remembered a worse one.
SPOILERS ...
Same game - my first. Decided (because I didn't trust Simon Havaerean) to go straight into the Underdark.
Many gameplaying hours later I read on a website about the sea voyage, the Githyanki attack, the Sahuagin City and ... The Gauntlets of Crushing (+4 to hit & dmg.)
I'd just missed two whole game areas AND the best (ONLY?) monk-oriented item in the whole game!
I tried to go on but it was no use. I was just about to return the silver eggs to Adolon when I realised I was going to have to go back - all the way back to before Irenicus' Maze, which is where I'd made my last save...
But my trip through the underdark was just that bit smoother the second time round. Pureed Drow, anyone?

dshadow Sat, 17th May '03, 10:55pm I once dropped some really good items (hilt of the Equaliser, Crom Faer scroll and a few others) on the ground while I was sorting out some of my characters' inventories, and then forgot I'd drop them and wandered off. By the time I remembered they were long gone.
Compulsive Dementia Sun, 18th May '03, 4:40am I didn't get dilbert and his friends the ale and swords in time, so I got cheated out of the experience, and I kept dying because of some stupid trap in neb's little house....damn gnome.
Redeemer Sun, 18th May '03, 10:16pm I think the most annoying moment was when i for the first time made the shadow druid quest. I choosed Jaheiera for the battle and it all went by just fine. Except for the fact that everything she carried were dropped on the ground, including equalizer pommel jewer, wawe shaft etc. I forgot to pick it up and since i just used quick save and auto save i got kinda pissed.
Another annoying thing that happens ALL the time is that my cleric allways get paralyzed first.
Sorry for any bad spelling ~~
Jurts Mon, 19th May '03, 9:14am I think the most annoying moment was when i for the first time made the shadow druid quest. I choosed Jaheiera for the battle and it all went by just fine. Except for the fact that everything she carried were dropped on the ground, including equalizer pommel jewer, wawe shaft etc. I forgot to pick it up and since i just used quick save and auto save i got kinda pissed. Well, you know that druid challenge master reminds you to pick up your gear in the dialogue after the battle... ;)
spoogemonkey Mon, 19th May '03, 6:18pm after weeks of trying to decide between girlfriends I finally decided on Jaheira.... and two days later she died.... now no one flirts with me anymore... and all I've got is this locket with our pictures in it.... sniff... sniff...
Maroth Sat, 14th Jun '03, 12:40am One of my worst experiences was when i fought Irenicus in spellhold, after quite many reloadings I finally was winning, having killed all the clones and all. Then I had someone from my party cast disintegrate on Irenicou and he fails his save. *BLOP* The plot dosen't move at all and nothing happen. After some moments feeling proud over beeing too powerful for the plot I had to load again. Without noticing I clicked Save instead of Load and Whee there goes my Game
ArrynMorgerim Sat, 14th Jun '03, 1:37am When I, feeling so powerful, played two hours without saving and Aerie died her final death... (insane difficulty and abi-dazim - who could have known? She had 61 HPs!)
(or)
When I wanted to try something and loaded quicksave I made *some* time ago. I haven't got another save, so I thought I will return to my recent auto-save. Then, stil in the old quick-saved game I left the area...
Blackhawk Sat, 14th Jun '03, 2:12am I have to agree with the Shadow Dragon fight. The first time I fought him, I had Aerie cast a few Lower Magic Resistance. Then Anomen cast a single Finger of Death - zap - down goes the dragon.
I would have been happy, but I couldn't stand the thought of that arrogant #$%^@ yapping about that for the rest of his life!
14 Sat, 14th Jun '03, 3:52am Well, being chased by a Nishuru in circles is pretty pissed off. And you get pissed more if that Nishuru hit you.
CXwinds Sat, 14th Jun '03, 8:24am Killing the Elder Orbs in the Drow Quests. After killing almost all of them, and then to have one of the orbs imprision your main character. ARGH! Same with demi-lich imprisioning your main character when he's near death. So annoying!!!
chevalier Sat, 14th Jun '03, 11:56am Whatever is legitimate does annoy, but it's quite soon beaten to death one way or another.
What is really annoying is illegitimate characters, spell effects and similar, which include:
stoneskin on stoneskin over - in contingency
- beholders and gauts hitting through walls
- enemies targeting spells at individual invisible characters, which inaccessible to you and contrary to what game tips say
- sometimes enemies also seem to know what you're protected from and use different methods of attack - this is for sure annoying, but I'm not sure if it's something in game scripts. Anyway, there's no way to tell if you're for example protected from fire and not protected from cold
without trying both. Or casting breach at least
- there are some other examples suggesting that sometimes enemies know what they shouldn't know
- additional, special effects of spells that aren't available with normal spell use. I understand that several wizards might have tampered with spells and created augmented ones, but it's not free lunch anyway
- enemies with abilities they shouldn't have. Very special feats and abilities are the domain of third edition and should also be available to player characters. Again, some of those might be legitimate and only appear 'augmented' in performance.
However, so far as pure annoyance without any particular reason or aim is considered, Annoyman (Anomen) rules supreme. All hail the fool!
Daie d'Malkin Sat, 14th Jun '03, 8:13pm I can top this.
Getting halfway through the game, then having your hard drive melt, and not being able to play for four months, and then having to start from the beginning as a pathetically weak paladin.
chevalier Sat, 14th Jun '03, 8:21pm Pathetically weak? Draw upon holy might will fix it. Twice daily from Bhaal powers you get for LG alignment.
Strifestrike Sun, 15th Jun '03, 5:12am Some of my worst moments prolly come from battles that you dont auto save before. The slavers battle which u do early on comes to mind... The mindflayers and Beholders in underdark are annoying as hell also. Finally the worst fight for me is usually the Tactics Twisted Rune fight though, its a real pain in the ass now
knightlight Sun, 15th Jun '03, 6:40am Any time that I have ever been Imprisoned. That spell is the most freakishly overpowered, game balance disrupting, annoying thing in the game. Some stoned developer had a serious mage fetish... "No! Wait! Now that the mage can make himself completely invincible and then stop time, let's let him kill the main character with ONE SPELL that Magic Resistance can't counter! Now everyone will HAVE to play a mage!" The fact that only one non-mage character (Berserker) can avoid being Imprisoned at will bugs me. Why not just give every mage in the game Diety Kill or Rapture of the Father? Those are instant-kill plot device spells too...
Sorry, I've needed to say that for a while. That single spell is the one thing that ruins the game for me whenever I encounter it. Grr.
Benan Sun, 15th Jun '03, 9:44am I hate how the humans all look like military men, with their crewcuts. Yeah thats pityful but it bothers me.
Oh and Umberhulks with there super confusing powers and speed. They bother me.
Stu Mon, 16th Jun '03, 1:13pm Another one from my sister
Jan dies.
Jahiera level drained to point where she cannot use hapers call.
No recent saves, Auto saves quick saves etc.
Middle of Firkrags dungeon.
chevalier Mon, 16th Jun '03, 1:40pm Resurrection scrolls work in the area where the character has died.
LKD Mon, 16th Jun '03, 5:44pm I hate it when you miscalculate in some really easy area and get killed by something stupid like an ogre or a troll. That ticks me off.
It's always a good idea to keep your rod of resurrection recharged so as to avoid the hassle of not being able to bring back your people.
chevalier Mon, 16th Jun '03, 8:57pm Well, and it's always good to use that ranger or rogue you have for scouting. Scout a bit, fire a few arrows, throw a spell or two in - you don't have to behave like a berserker all the time ;) Unless you really are some hopeless one or an untouchable paladin, but be prepared for surprise every now and then.
LKD Mon, 16th Jun '03, 9:16pm even when I have scouted, sometimes I run into the ogrse or whatever they are in Firkraag's lair, it should be easy, right? And yet, about 1% of the time, I go in and start to fight and suddenly I'm dead! Bad calculation.
