View Full Version : The weirdest secret (soul reaver +4 spoiler)
The Grim Ripper Sun, 24th Jun '01, 5:56pm well i diecided one day that i would go back to where the drows are after the silver dragon gets you back up into the open, and i came across this place with all those fishy thingiys in it. i came to a altar after a lot of fire and earthquakes and it said "place a animal sacarifice in fornt of the staue and awaken its childern" or something like that. i didint understand it so i got bored and made jahiera cast animal summoning 1. out came 2 war dogs, im made on e move around and it stood in front of the statue then BOOM! a message came up and 6-7 cambions came. well heres the spoilerey bit:
'
'
'

'
'
if you kill all the cambions, most of them brandish a +1 2 handed sword but a certain one carreys soul reaver, a +4 2 handed sword. its very strong but cannot be used by good people. i think nuterals can use it but they have to be evil in a sort of way. for those who are stuck hope this helps you.
whoops i dint know that everyone knew that sorry.

Extremist Sun, 24th Jun '01, 6:02pm Come on!
That's well known thing.
And I sacrificed Kitthix for those 5 cambions. Alas, you need to nail them in order to get a part for Crom Faeyr - since we're spoiling...
Avooch Dar Sun, 24th Jun '01, 6:10pm yeah well it is useful as just being an object aswell.
no one in my party needed a hammer so i just got my pally to wear the belt!
Spudsquisher Sun, 24th Jun '01, 9:39pm but it is a very good hammer, if you give it to anomen or viconia they are awesome! when i got around to the suldenesallar - or whatever, elven city - the golems were no trouble
Ragusa Sun, 24th Jun '01, 10:44pm IMHO CROM SUX !
The best thing about the loot there is that the girdle of frostgiant strength will boost up every fighter´s melee fighting abilities considerably. Additionally the armor of the heart is a dream.
Crom can turn every silly wimp into a powerful fighter ... thgat´s a result of the str-boni for damage and THACO ... and it kills some golems and trolls immediately ...
But who needs that? Only an idiot would fight golems in melee when slings work great from safe distance. Instant kill and trolls are *not THAT terrific* that you need an instant kill weapon at all, good old standard equipment and arrows of fire/ acid worked fine for me. So I get along quite well without it and I find better use for the gaunts of ogre power and the girdle.
:D :p Instant kill is for cheating cowards only ! :D :p
Earl Grey Mon, 25th Jun '01, 4:50am It is +5. It is blunt. It is one handed.
Those are good reasons to love it.
On top of that you get 25 strength and the minor benefit of lethality toward some monsters.
Do you think it is overpowered and should not have been included in the game for that reason? There are other objects worth critizising if that is the case.
Is it meleeing you dislike? I don't think of myself as an idiot and my soloing Wizaard Slayer used Crom Faeyr to slay many golems and other monsters in the streets of Suldanesselar. Melee can be much simpler and faster than missile fire in some cases. I wonder what the stupid choice is then?
Ragusa Mon, 25th Jun '01, 6:57am In fact I think melee is as necessary as the use of missile weapons. My main chars have mostly been melee characters. It´s just that Crom in fact *is* overpowered.
Other examples of this category are possibly Carsomyr (none of my pallys ever used it); C´Fury; shield of balduran and cloak of spell reflection (I can understand peopole using both - gauths and beholders are deadly enemies).
Crom is just a +3 weapon actually (!),it just features a +5 THACO bonus. However, no other item gives a character a "godlike" strength and thats my main problem with crom for it adds +14 damage/ +7 THACO on the already enormous damage of a 2d4+3 weapon . The result is: 2d4+20 damage & + 12 THACO bonus @ 4 attacks per round ... get my point?
Blackthorne TA Mon, 25th Jun '01, 4:38pm Not true; the Hammer of Thunderbolts is "only" enchanted +3, Crom Faeyr is enchanted +5.
For proof look at Extremists thread of the list of +3 and greater weapons below, and the fact that it can hit Kangaxx who can be hit by +4 and above weapons only IIRC.
Mathetais Mon, 25th Jun '01, 4:45pm Ragusa - I don't see why you thing Crom is over-powered???
So one of the PC's or NPC's gets to walk around and pretend that he/she is THOR, the God of Thunder. No big deal, happens everyday! :p
Seriously, since I was a huge fan of Thor in Marvel Comics, I really loved this weapon. In terms of roll-playing - you don't HAVE to give it to your tank. Give it to the person "most deserving". In my party, it was Arie since my PC was a palidin using the Holy Avenger (I can't spell the BG name for it!)
Ragusa Mon, 25th Jun '01, 6:22pm well, then it is +5 (I actually use the german shawdowkeeper as my item liblary) - mea culpa.

Extremist Mon, 25th Jun '01, 8:01pm 1. Overpowered. Yes. I agree. But you also have to work a bit thru the game to get it made (not like you kill one beast and it's there - Carsomyr). Unless of course you cheat. So, I don't think you shouldn't use it. :p
2. This is what you get for using that util:
- A bug that make Crom Faeyr only +3 :p
- Me getting out of this thread for good :p
Enthasius Tue, 26th Jun '01, 8:33pm Crom is over-powered for a very specific reason...........Its so Damned hard to get in the first place, battling illithids'n'such-a-malark
