First of all i would like to say this topic is not about powergaming versus roleplaying. Exploits versus cheats. I just want to know peoples tactics when fighting say any group that is tough. I also don't want lists of spells it is sufficient to just say summin some monsters, remove thier resistances, offensive spells on thier mages etc.

In my current game the battle i used tactics the most in was the party in the seweres becasue i had totally forgotten about them and i had only gone into the sewers in order to get keldorn. In the end i beat them by having my 2 tanks charge along 1 tunnel with my summoned monsters in front. My cleric was behind them and healing when minsc was almost killed. In the other tunnel my mages protected themselves before lobbing 2 fireballs in. My fighters withdrew for healing my mages threw 2 more fireballs in the group. As the enemies rushed my mages my mage/cleric aerie cast cloudkill write in the middle of them. We withdrew summoned some more monsters and sent my tanks and monster in. At the same time my kensai attacked in kai mode from the other side and the group of adventurers were no more.

This is the sort of tactics i would like to here about not dragon battles if they are simply lower resistances hammer with mages.

I cant remember if this was the time I won, but I started off one attempt at the battle mentioned above like so:
I stealthed Valygar and sent him ahead of the party to scout while Vicky cast protective/enhancement spells and Haer'Dalis and Juan the conjurer protected themselves with stoneskin etc. Val then backstabbed the poncy elven mage who usually causes me such grief, either taking him out or stunning him with celestial fury (cant remember exactly). Juan then cast slow before Korgan went all angry and Haer'Dalis went into an offensive spin. Cue tank (Korg, Val and Haery) attacks/magic poundings + a quick casting of REmove fear by Vicky when people got a little panicky and we were, as they say, sorted.

ah, that battle, I remember that :)

I casted greater malison with Edwin, and Web with jan, then another web and chaos/confusion. Then a couple of cloudkills and I retreated till everyone was dead or neardeath. The rest was pretty easy, an arrow there or a slash here, no biggie :)

simple but efficient. I like to summon one or two creatures as cannon fodder (so they don't escape the web to quickly.
The spider figurine is good (can cast another web as well) and some other, perhaps the horn of valhalla to summon the berserker.

[EDIT]
Yeah, I know, but you shold still be able to cast the spells. Throwing a fireball their way works great as well when they're in the web, just for that little extra something ;)

Thankyou will for not listing out all the specific spells your mages cast and thank you also for replying.

In my current game as i said i was only going in the sewers to get keldorn which was pretty early in the game so that fight is tough when your average level is 8-9.

I found that battle easy, even at low levels! All you have to do, is charm two of the enemies on the left tunnel, bring them to another room and kill them out of sight. Then you take the right tunnel, cast web or entangle shoot 2 fireballs, arrows, or other long range attacks, and wait for them to come after you.

hide in shads with yoshimo, backstab mage, quaff invisibility potion, backstab other mage, fighters come in and clean house, while missile weapon genius mazzy disrupts the cleric

all done =)

Tactics? huh? I divide it into two
My team:
I F/M/T
Minsc(tank)
Mazzy(tank)
Keldorn(tank)
Anomen(tank)
Valygar(tank)

Magelings: I and Keldorn Dispell him. Mazzy bombards with arrows. Minsc Vally and Anomen hack him up.

Non-magelings: Mayhem, closecombat, Except Mazzy with bow, and Keldorn with Crossbow

Add potions and scrolls at pleasure. Easy simple and brutal.

Thank you noblemen for giving me tactics in general rather than the battle i mentioned. Please i want general tactics the sewer battle was an example not a requirement.
Thank you.

ah well, I usually just hack n' slash all the way accompanied by the longrange members. if it's a group of small enemies, I just send a fireball their way.

if I meet mages, I use breach, secret word, ruby ray.

Dragons, breach, ruby ray and lower resist. (pierce magic works well too)

my party:

me - tank
korgan - tank
viccy - tank
jan - range
haerdalis - range
edwin - range/magic

Most of my battles tend to following something along the lines of this:

- Cast group defensive spells if wanted.
- Charge in with 3 or 4 melee tanks, have the rest backing up with ranged weapons.
- Heal as neccessary using spells or potions.
- Get mages to cast offensive spells (eg flame arrow) as needed.
- If an enemy mage casts protection spells (eg protection from magic weapons) I get my mage to cast breach (or similar) on them.
- Sometimes I leave one of my tanks (eg Minic) back as a ranged attacker to protect my mages incase one of the enemies heads for them.
- If it all goes terribly wrong then retreat and try to heal up the front line guys.

Simiple but works most of the time.

Depending on whereabouts, this tactic is somewhat usefull, even if rather cheap:
My assasin going hidden in shadows, got it really high for hiding, +non-detectable cloack and free movement (from a short sword you get early on). Check for nmes, traps, have my 3 tanks behind lined up if I encounter a monster that can see me (vampire, damn I hate those level drains), and sorcerer/cleric waiting as well. Than you spot the group, move away with assasin so they get to be just outside your sight-field, and start moving with sorcerer who's on some def spells. And you get close to your thief, cast one-two area spells, just on the edge of your visible screen, getting first shot in. And I like to start of with movement obstructing spells, than you get your assasin in, backstab *4, bye bye evil mage, drink potion of invis, run out, area spell coming in, exp 12 000 :)
And remember to have AI script off during these fights, because that one of most annoying thing having your fighters charge in really fast and getting stuck.
