View Full Version : Technical Problems concerning Waukeen's Promenade
Buddas Hand Sat, 27th Apr '02, 10:31pm I have been expericencing promblems with getting into Waukeens Promenade. It loads then just as it is about to come up to show the game screen it quits and leaves a black box in the upper left corner and shows BGSOA on the toolbar as still running. So I Ctrl+Alt+Del and it comes up as BG2-SOA Not responding. I have been through the process of changing my Cd drive to no read ahead, unchecked DMA from device manager, Deleted files in the the Temp folder and the Cache/Data folder, Uninstalled the game. It still did not work so I deleted everything I on my PC to do with BG2. It still does not work. I have also contacted the Interplay Help service but nothing they have said has done anything. Please Help!!!
Kitrax Sat, 27th Apr '02, 10:55pm If you have un/reinstalled the game and it still doesn't work, I would download the latest patch. If that doesn't work, I would get a new computer...if that still doesn't work, the game must not like you...(take a sledge hammer to the CD's and show them whose boss!!!!) :rolling:
Thorin Sun, 28th Apr '02, 3:22am Try cleaning the cd's and cleaning your computer registry.
Buddas Hand Sun, 28th Apr '02, 9:03am How do you clean the registry?
Extremist Sun, 28th Apr '02, 12:33pm To clean registry? Are you out of your mind? :toofar:
Do not touch registry! It has nothing to do with your problem. Messed registry can only make you unable to install/uninstall BG2. Nothing else.
Right, you posted things you've tried to do, and thanks for trying it all before posting about it. But have you made a clean installation now? If not, do it.
Anyway, when we exclude all of those, there are two possibilities you got:
1. Your saved game is busted
2. One of your CDs is busted
How will you determine which thing is busted?
Start a new game. When thew intro animations are over and you get Imoen in party, type this in the console:
CLUAConsole:MoveToArea("AR0700")
If the game processes this as it should, you'll get to Waukeen's Promenade. That means your saved game got scr**ed. There is no chance to mend that. You'll have to start a new game.
Actually, going to Waukeen's Promenade is not needed to finish the game. If you want to go there just for some items, post here and I'll display you the codes of those items - if the only place to get them is Waukeen's Promenade.
But if the game crashes on the command above, that means Waukeen's Promenade is definetly unreachable - at least one of your CDs is scratched and there is no help on that but you should replace CD at Bioware. The critical CD is CD1 or CD2 then. In this case, to see which one is scratched, try to COPY it completely somewhere on your hard-drive.
I'm aware that contacting Bioware on any matter is a blind shot - you're not the first one who is complaining about them. If those people won't reply on your problem, you've have my blessings to copy the problematic CD from any friend of yours who has BG2 too.
Also there is no hope you can get the possible problematic file from bad CD over the net, all of area files are sized more than 30 Mb.
Anyway, do post what happens after you issue the console command from above in a completely new game!!!
Kitrax Sun, 28th Apr '02, 6:02pm I agree with extremist...DO NOT TOUCH THE REGISTRY...any experianced tech could tell you that. I don't really know what is wrong with it but if nothing works...with the latest patch installed...I wold uninstall the game, go some place where you can rent CD ROM games and see if its your CD's that are causing the problem. :rolling:
8people Sun, 28th Apr '02, 6:55pm Have you used CLUA to summon anything there? or have you used ShadowKeeper or any other cheat/editer there? My Granny mucked my game up by doing that
Buddas Hand Mon, 29th Apr '02, 8:42am I did what you said and it crashed, meaning my disk is stuffed. My next problem is none of my friends have BG2. In fact I know absolutely no-one who plays bg2. Is there a place I can download/scab/be sent the files? Would a disk cleaner help? Thanks for the previous help, you guys are much better than Bioware!
I need the codes for Illithuim ore, Ribald( the shopkeeper for Adventures mart so I can finish the Solmian Knights Quest), Staff of Rynn+4.
I also may need some more but I'll try to refer to the cheats on some website.( Hopee you guys have some :p )

Extremist Tue, 30th Apr '02, 5:36pm I've told you there is no chance to mail you huge files over the net - at least not to me from my 56k connection.
Anyway, take a deep thought - if you don't find the new CD by some means, you won't be able to replay the game after you finish it. Waukeen's Promenade is one of critical areas that can't be skipped!
Illithium Ore (real) - MISC5K
Illithium Alloy (fake) - MISC6S
Ribald - RIBALD
For staff and knights quest, you just spawn Ribald at a location you can enter and talk to him.
Rathan Tue, 30th Apr '02, 6:10pm If you have a FTP server I could give you the area files, thanks to my Cable connection... :)
Besides, if you plan to buy BG2 again then choose the DVD version of it, as DVD-roms are a much higher quality than standard CD's...
Then you won't have to swap CD's either when installing or playing with the Minimum Installation...
If nothing of the above works, then try borrowing a CD-drive from one of your friends, as sometimes certain drives can't read certain discs (tried that with C&C disc 2)...
And in fact messing with your registry is not a problem, only have to know how to it.
Information on registry-messing can be achived by mailing a request to my e-mail:
