I dunno if many of you know this but the cleric spell "Insect Plague" works wonders against large groups of weak foes. For example, in the fight against the spider-loving drow chick in the Graveyard tombs, it killed every single spider in less than 2 seconds and it wasn't dangerous at all for my party (like a fireball would've been) :D

You will be amazed to find that the spell that is one level higher - "Creeping Doom" - works even biger wonders. It can be used VERY effectively against Dragons, Liches, groups of Druids, Halflings :D, Mercenaries, Drow, etc.
As far as that horde of spiders go, the best option I found was Edwins's Death Spell - whooshh - and it is over.

The best about insect plague is that it constantly works as a miscast magic spell, holding down enemy defences and seriously hindering offence and driving them to panic too

I imagine it's pretty hard to cast a spell while a beetle crawls up your left nostril ;)
Also, Creeping Doom has a 100% spell casting failure rate to those who it affects. Very good stuff!!!
