Just started the game and I'm playing a blade. Wondering what level a blade can dual wield at, or perhaps I'm just not equipping the swords right?

You equip the swords by placing them in each hand. The problem of when depends on what penalty is acceptable to you. Without proficiency points in two weapon style you will have difficulties hitting a kobold. The penalties/bonuses are listed here. (http://www.sorcerers.net/Games/BG2/proficiencies.php)

The Blade is capable of wielding two weapons from the very beginning. However, to equip that sword of yours in your off-hand slot, there mustnt be a ranged weapon in your main hand.

Might that be the problem here?
