I noticed that the boots of speed give you a haste icon when you equip them. When I looked at the character screen my attacks per round had increased as well. Does this count as normal haste or improved? Also, was this intentional? I noticed that in BG1 they only increased movement rate and nothing else.

It's normal haste. I'm not sure if it was intentional...surely it must have been.

IIRC it is normal haste - in terms of movement speed.

The boots of speed seem to improve your number of attacks as well but it was consensus here that this is a bug: the item uses the haste-spell animation, so it just looks like having a higher number of attacks.

The description sais: Increased Movement Rate

I suppose that Movement doesn't only include walking but also an attack is a movement, of your arm. However I would think it would be logical when boots only affect you walking and not attacking, it really does increase your attacks per round.

Increased attacks are bug indeed.

Boots are originally affecting the wearer almost as normal Haste spell.

The correction of the bug was introduced in unofficial patch at Baldurdash, but because Black Isle never included that in their patch, I don't advise installing it if you are on multi-player - because it will give other players the ability you don't have!

Hi,

The normal haste spell adds one attack per round. Improved haste doubles attacks. Easy to check, just use ring of gaxx or cast haste spell on character X.

The boots of speed in my game add one attack so it looks like it uses the normal haste spell on the character and doesn't just increase movement rate. However I have the baldurdash fix installed to acheive this....

The baldurdash fix does the following (this is not covered by any Bioware fixes as Extremist pointed out)

From readme in fixpack
Several bugs with the effect of these boots are resolved:

1) The item was defined as a permanent Haste spell with some flags altered, which suppressed a real Haste spell from being applied to the wearer
2) The effect doubled the initiative round. This meant that the first attack was wasted; a character with only one attack per round might stand around for up to two rounds before making the first attack
3) Because the doubled initiative round wasted the first attack, a character who tried a backstab would come out of invisibility before the first attack was actually made, leaving them vulnerable with an uninjured enemy
4) The most recently noticed effect: Haste in all forms suppresses off-hand attacks when dual-wielding, so wearing the unfixed Boots eliminated off-hand attacks

Baldurdash also has an identical fix for TOB grandmaster armor.

Up to you if you want to play with them. :D. I play with all the baldurdash fixes. Most of them remove possibly cheesey options and exploits such as monks wearing keldorns armor or getting two rings of gaxx. A very few are like the boots of speed fix, they enhance an item that appeasr to be slightly broken.

Cheers,

WittyNewt.
