View Full Version : Newbie in town
Shrikant Wed, 30th Apr '03, 5:58am Just started playing BGII n only played IWD1 before so these questions emenate from that background.
1>How do I rearrange my charecters in BGII? In IWD1 I could always reimport anyone i liked in any order of my choice but now ... :(
I would prefer to have a frontline melee trio of my fighter, Minsc n Korgan rather than risk Jahira.
2>Is there no store here that sells potion bags?
I get sick of seeing so many bottles in my Inventory.

Kitrax Wed, 30th Apr '03, 7:25am Well first, to reorganize your party, just click and drag the NPC's portrait up or down while in the main game screen.
And secondly, IIRC the potion bags are only in ToB, not in SoA. The only bags in SoA are: the Bag of Holding, the Gem Gad, and the Scroll Case. :rolling:
Shrikant Thu, 15th May '03, 11:22am Thanks for that. But what is the bag of holding n what does it hold? Secondly where do I get it?
Also i found my bard accidentally swiping from my own party. How does that affect the game?On that same note I went in to the sewers and found the potions guy. When I tryed to loot him I could get the same potion many times over while the buy mode showed only 1 piece of that item for sale. Is this a normal function of the game or did I get lucky.
Thanks in advance.
Volsung Thu, 15th May '03, 11:40am The bag of holding is a sack in which you can place any item you wish. It's magical so that it seems small from the outside but the inside is BIG. It can hold many items. You can put the potions in this bag. I do not remmber where you can find it though.
ppz Thu, 15th May '03, 12:02pm If memory serves, bag of holding can be found in the Spellhold maze - that's quite far into the game, so if you're just starting it, don't think about this item too much :)
Jurts Thu, 15th May '03, 12:35pm I would prefer to have a frontline melee trio of my fighter, Minsc n Korgan rather than risk Jahira.
5th level druid spell Ironskins will protect her in melee fighting and make her more durable than Minsc or Korgan.
Shrikant Thu, 15th May '03, 11:53pm 5th level druid spell Ironskins will protect her in melee fighting and make her more durable than Minsc or Korgan. Doesnt she have to be a level 11 Druid in order to be able to do that? When will that happen?
 After all I am trying NOT to use CLUAConsole.
Of course taking advantage of the program like importing a heavily loaded dude back into a new game does not count as cheating does it? ;) :D
Bye the way I am in a quandry as to which one of Aerie or Nalia to keep in my party. I am a weapons kinda guy with spells being the last thing on my shopping list. Also is there a good armour around which will still allow mage spells to be cast. Preferably accessable in the 2nd chapter itself.
Thanks in advance.
Jurts Fri, 16th May '03, 8:28am Doesnt she have to be a level 11 Druid in order to be able to do that? When will that happen? NO! She gets level5 when she hits level9 in Druid. That should happen very early in chapter2. She has access also to Harper's Call which allows to resurrect your dead characters - a huge bonus if you are very early in the game.

Well, I am a little biased, because I despise Aerie's personality. But anyway if you are looking simply for someone who can cast mage spells, take Nalia. She will advance quicker in her mage levels and gain mage levels quicker than Aerie. As she has dual classed from a thief, she can use short bows and with her great Dexterity, she makes a good archer. And she is less of a whiner as well :p
Good robes for a mage:
Deirdre (bonus merchant in Adventurer's Mart) - Robe Of Vecna
Smith in Trademeet - Robe Of Good Archmagi
Rotku Fri, 16th May '03, 12:12pm I think Aerie is a much better choice. She had both clerc and mage spells avalible and can you a mace or club much better than a bow (well i think so atleast with me PC been an archer :) ).
Earl Grey Fri, 16th May '03, 12:36pm I agree with keeping Korgan and Minsc in front, with Jaheira as a back up fighter. She is not as good at fighting as those two and besides she's a spellcaster which should settle the matter. :)
Harper's Call, or Raise Dead, is much overrated. I really don't care if I have any such spell in my party or not.
Aerie or Nalia? I much prefer Aeire because of her - IMO - better looks and personality, but Nalia is a better addition to a party because she becomes a strong mage. I don't particularly like Cleric/Mages. (Note: If you plan on taking them into ToB then Aerie is great.)On the other hand, Imoen and Nalia are practically identical so you have to decide if you want both Imoen and Nalia or just one of them. Nalia often becomes the better mage, but once you have a lot of experience with BG2 you know when to time your departure for Brynnlaw so that Imoen's experience is close to the rest of your party.

She had both clerc and mage spells avalible and can you a mace or club much better than a bow (well i think so atleast with me PC been an archer ) Aerie as a fighter? Shock! Tell me what's her Thac0 and how many attacks per round she has? Can she stay in the melee for more than a single round until her stoneskin is breached and her 40 HP are reduced to zero? Her mage and cleric skills all remain too low level in SoA for my liking.

She's a fighter/druid if you have not noticed! She has great DEX - great AC, with ironskins she will be able to whitstand heavy enemy attacks when both Korgan and Minsc would be beaten to blooody pulp. Give her the Belt of Giant Strength and Belm scimitar and you have a kickass fighter with good ThacO and good number of attacks per round, likely more than Korgan or Minsc at that point.
Harper's Call, or Raise Dead, is much overrated. I really don't care if I have any such spell in my party or not.True, I prefer to use other level5 spells. But others find that it's early availability to be a bonus.
Aerie or Nalia? I much prefer Aeire because of her - IMO - better looks and personalityBut she's a whiny blue-eyed blonde, is she not?
On the other hand, Imoen and Nalia are practically identical so you have to decide if you want both Imoen and Nalia or just one of them. Not exactly. Imoen can be considered a mage/thief, Nalia can't. Her thief skills are not good enough. She is a very good mage, with very good stats, her STR, DEX, CON are all impressive, INT is adequate.
Stu Fri, 27th Jun '03, 11:38am Stuff them both, although I agree with Jurtz's comment about Aerie (you make it seem bad though - whats wrong with blonde hair and blue eyes??) I do not think she is a good character to use as she is essentially useless, as she does not cast level 8 spells in the game, and Nalia can only cast one per day. Go with Edwin, he can cast three level 8 spells at the end of the game!!
Deathmage Sat, 28th Jun '03, 12:57am Hey, I use my Aerie as a figher. Why? Crom Faeyr!
She can slam a critical hit of over 70 damage in ToB while Minsc lingers around the 40's. Sure, she doesn't hit nearly as often as my other fighters (Minsc, Mazzy, Cernd with the shapeshifter rebalancing), but there's always Tenser's Transformation. Plus, she can buff herself up quite well, Stoneskin, Mirror Image and such. Not to mention she can heal herself. The only disadvantage is her crap HP, but that can be remedied...
As for the Nalia-Imoen debate, there's plenty of thief skill improvement items in the game, but of course you could whip those on Immy. Nalia also has higher strengh which is useful since Imoen's strengh tends to make her get crushed her equipment, so Nalia could carry and use some nicer stuff without been squashed.
Not that mage stuff is very heavy. But my Imoen wears the Bladesinger Chain so...
Rotku Sat, 28th Jun '03, 2:11am I dislike Imoen. She is pathetic at melee fighting without a lot of protection spells. The only reason I take her is for the story.
