What is with this spell? Does anyone ever use it? What would you use it for? I've tried to think of some meaningful use for it to justify it but I come up with nothing. It can be dispelled with a simple dispel magic. Sounds like a big time waster to me. If anyone has found a good strategic use for it please tell.

One method of using it is to neutralize powerful enemies to be dealt with later.

Example: in the guarded compound you might want to contain the cleric inside the sphere so he does not bother you with flamestrikes while you have to fight a lot of other powerful enemies.

The Bounty Hunter get´s that as part of his trapsetting after some levels right? (lv 19 or something like that.)

Correct, but I don't remember the level either, as I never used traps.

I've used it a few times to protect a party member that's getting whacked around. Especially if they are held and unable to move or drink potions. Better than having to raise them after the fight is over.

Oh yeah, and I've also cast it on a party member and used them as a decoy. If they are in the right location, all the badies attack them without effect and the rest of the party can pick off the badies.

I'll have to try some of those ideas, maybe there's hope for that spell in my spellbook yet.

The most noble use I have found for the sphere is to protect innocent bystanders from the ravages of the battle when they are too close. A very useful example of this is actually from BG1 where plot crucial npc's are right in the middle of a fight with Sarevok and his doppleganger minions...one of the Dukes has to survive if I understand it rightly and in order to ensure that is the case, put em in a bubble...worry about that merchant getting whacked by the demon or lich, put em in a bubble.

What I use it for is neutralising dire charmed or panicked group members before they can harm themselves or others- it was especially helpful in BG1 against sirines and nereids.
