Stuck in Spellhold/Bhaal dream?

I've completed SoA a few times in the past, but just recently got ToB installed. And to think soloing was fun before.. but I digress.

I've got into Spellhold and been ambushed by Irenicus, had him activate his soul-sucking machine, and I've been thrown into the Candlekeep-like dream. Now I know that I'm supposed to make a sacrifice to the demon to get inside the castle (which I did) and I also need to lure Bhaal inside before I can defeat him (which I *tried* to do) but he will not follow me anymore. He just gives up pursuit once I enter Candlekeep now!

I've reloaded from a few different points and tried a few different approaches no less than a dozen times now. Any ideas what I can do here?

If you have the boots of speed on, chances are you're walking faster than he is. It could be he's too far from you when you go through the door. Try making sure he's as close to you as possible when you enter the keep, and once inside, wait near the door for him to follow you.

I've never played the game SOA-only, but there should be no reason why installing TOB would make this sequence behave differently.

 

Well, I gave up trying to fix and/or understand the problem so I just CLUA'd in a new Bhaal. That worked. Thanks anyways Ziad.

It seems an obvious question, but did you talk to Imoen inside the Candlekeep library before going out and trying to lure Bhaal into the library ? I just wondered if that was a critical thing to do first...

 

I once tried going to Bhaal first, and I once tried going to Imoen first. It didn't seem to make any difference.

 

Interesting problem. I just played through that section this week and had no problem. Tob installed. I know you fixed the problem but I wonder if you went up near where Imoen is located after you tried to lure Bhaal in. I recall needing to be near her before he turned up.

 

This is a common problem for solo players. You need to have a second person in your party to get Bhaal to follow you in. Don't know why this is the casae. Its the same with all enemies. Switch thesingle player save file to multiplayer save files. Add a stooge NPC through multiplayer, then transfer back to singlepalyer save file after the sequence has ended.

 

I've had to CLUA in two more NPCs since Bhaal, but I'll try the stooge NPC thing next time the problem arises. Thanks!
