[IMG] I don't expect the need for such a thread to arise again any time soon given that we haven't banned anyone but spammers in 3 or 4 years now (possibly with one or two exceptions), but just in case, I'm making this a general thread that will be updated whenever we ban someone that actually deserves mentioning. This is an announcement thread only, as I don't think that public discussions about any of the bans would be productive, but feel free to PM me for clarification if needed. I know how rumours and misinformation start to fly every time someone is banned, so our policy here is complete transparency, as we have no reason whatsoever to hide anything.

Yesterday I've revoked martaug's access to all of the forums for at least 6 months, but as I don't believe that he's capable of sincerely doing what I told him would be required for me to lift the ban, it is very likely permanent.

martaug has been consistently and persistently breaking our rules for years, but because his missteps were usually relatively minor, he's got off lightly up until now. However, all good things come to an end eventually. Yesterday I've asked him to edit one of his posts in the Alleys to comply with our rules (the way he's broken the rules and the Alley guidelines has been the same as dozens of times in the past). He has refused to change more than one of the three things I asked of him and topped it with a few insulting and abusive PMs aimed at me.

The abusive PMs from him were again nothing new (neither to me nor to some of our other mods), but as I stopped being amused by them some time ago, I decided that we've had enough babying him because it obviously wasn't producing the intended result.

Of course, if this was a few years ago, he would have been banned permanently a long time ago. But since then our community has grown and matured quite spectacularly, as evidenced by the lack of the need for any bans in years. Unfortunately, despite our best efforts, we couldn't steer martaug on the course to respecting this community and its members. He'll get another shot at it in 6 months, but it really will be the last one.
