Oblivion Mods for a First-Timer

I’m finally going to be starting Oblivion for the first time in the next week or so. I assume the official and unofficial patches are recommended. My question is what mods might be useful. I went online, and there appears to be two main sites – texnexus and uesp; however, there are so many mods that it is frankly a bit overwhelming. So I’m looking to the good folks at SP for help.

I’m not so much interested in new content (since it’s all new to me). Instead, I’m looking for mods that take care of things that players generally find irritating – kind of like BG2’s Ease Of Use / Tweakpack. Also, because I have a new computer, I’m sure I can run anything graphically that game has available, so if there is anything people can recommend in that regard, that would be great.

Of course, if there are any “must-have” mods that don’t fall into the above categories, let me know!

Thanks DR. That looks like a pretty good list. Francesco’s, Unique Landscapes, Qarl’s Texture Pack, Natural Environments and Darnified UI all look like they'd be good for what I'm looking for.

A bit late. The instant fast travel mod will make you happy. It will let you fast-travel from the places you cannot, like cave's or dungeons.

Full with loot, no need to walk trough the entire cave....
