Hmmm.... Could Azmodan actually be the end game boss?
(I mean, you'd think that seeing as how it's Diablo III, that Diablo would be the end game boss, but in Diablo II, it was Baal, so you can't be sure. |

It's been a long while, but I'm pretty sure Diablo was the end boss in vanilla D2 - when act 4 was still the final act - while Bhaal became the end boss when act 5 was added in the expansion.

You are correct - it's just that with all the later patches and improvements that came out long after the release of D2, most people now consider Baal to be the end boss. (I think there's no "h" in the Baal in D2 - I think that's reserved for the one in the BG series - and of course they have a different pronunciation.)
EDIT: And don't forget that work on the expansion had already begun prior to the initial product launch of D2 - It was already determined that the last Act boss you'd have would be Baal. |
