Protagonist level for Dynaheir's Fireball

I'm replaying BG1. I only played it once, but I thought that Dynaheir (who will be my main arcanist) had Fireball when she joins the party. I may have freed her a bit too early cause she's now at level 4 and only has stinking cloud as a 2nd level spell, which is her highest. Now I wonder:

What level does my party or protagonist need to be to for Dynaheir to have Fireball right from when she joins you? I want it asap in the game and don't want to wait till I get into the city of BG. Perhaps any other place where I can find a scroll?

(Should I mention that I only have the original game installed, no patches or TotSC?)

I do not know about your level (sorry), but I think there is a fireball scroll in the Firewine ruins. Of course, this is not such a good place to go to early.

You need to be level 5.

I'm trying to understands this. Level 3 spells are casts by level 5 mages and so my main char needs to be level 5? Is it that simple?
Apparently, I never understood the levels at which npc's join you. Seems like they join at your level +1 (Imoen at lvl 2, Minsc at lvl3 when I was lvl 2. And now Dynaheir at lvl 4 where I was lvl3)

I can't wait until Firewine, but I guess I'll have to. Thanks for that tip.

I am fairly certain there is a fireball scroll in the bandit camp.

Actually you never really need to memorize fireball anyway since there are so many fireball wands scattered all over. Just use a wand and save your spell slots for more valuable spells. Slow is an amazing spell that works wonders against tougher enemies than are immune to Sleep.

This should help. I'm not really sure why their join levels are that way, but it's a kind of mixed blessing. It's great news for NPCs like Dynaheir, bad news for ones like Safana (who ends up dumping one of her proficiency points in spears if you get her late - this is a bug, since rogues can't use spears). Xan, in particular, gets the Shadowform spell (reallly rare) at level 6 - except as a level 1 bugged spell.

Luckily you can use Shadowkeeper to fix these.

Gafgorkion, thanks for that tip. I really want Dyna to have Fireball, though. I'm quite a powergamer, but some things I just need to roleplay as well. An invoker who can't cast fireball by herself is like... I don't know... Stuffed turkey without stuffing? I guess my other arcane characters will use these wands.

Just for anybody's interest. A multiclass character's levels do not stack for this purpose, apparently. A fighter3/mage2 is not considered a level 5 character and does not get a level 6 Dynaheir, but level 4.
Well, reloading and overwriting these savegames have been all for nothing, but still fun.
