I thought Magic Missile was useful for completely removing Magic Missile and Stoneskin spells in one of these Infinity Engine games, but I forgot which one.
It's not Baldur's Gate II unless it changed with the addition of Throne of Bhaal, Baldurdash (no, I still haven't gotten around to switching to Fixpack) , aTweaks, G3 Tweaks, or the official patch. Which game was it? In BG2 with the mentioned mods, Magic Missile will kill one image and only one image, just like a single arrow or mele attack, but has no apparent effect on stoneskin as smacking a Yuan-Ti mage had no effect after nailing him with a magic missile (using the fact that I can usually sneak a melee attack in between castings). http://www.flickr.com/photos/1073601...in/photostream |

I don't think I've ever used it that way. For removing mirror images, yes, but for removing stoneskines... I've played the IWD series, the BG series and the NWN series. I also experiment with the mods often, and if there's a mod that has this change it must be pretty obscure.
Perhaps you're remembering an excerpt from the manual or spell description? In BG it erroneously states that Magic Missiles can remove stoneskins. This was never the case in practice. |

Might be that I'm misremembering wrong, it's been a while since I played.
Which patch affected it so that MM would remove more than one image from the mirror image spell at a time, or took away that capability? |

Stoneskin only protects against physical damage. Magic Missile is magical damage. Spells that do magical damage, like Magic Missile, Horrid Wilting, Holy Smite, will bypass Stoneskin completely and do full damage to the mage.
Edit: You say Magic Missile is doing nothing to a Stoneskinned yuan-ti mage? Maybe it has Minor Spell Turning or Minor Globe or some other protection as well that is negating the Magic Missiles. If it just had Stoneskin alone, Magic Missile would bypass it completely and do pure magical damage. |

Oh, it did full damage to the mage, it did nothing to the mage's stoneskins.
If you look at the image I included, it shows Imoen casting magic missile. It did normal damage and interrupted the mage's spell. http://www.sorcerers.net/forums/albu...pictureid=2593 Then while Imoen was in "aura cleansing" I had her attempt to smack the mage with her staff for a "free" attack. She hit, but did no damage. The the mage nailed her with a magic missile of his own because her shield spell had expired and I had to renew it with the shield amulet. |

That is what is supposed to happen as magic missile does not affect magical attacks like magic missile.

Missiles that do physical damage, such as arrows, bolts, and darts, remove one stoneskin layer but missiles that do magical or elemental damage do not.
Stoneskin ONLY blocks physical damage. I said this before. Magical damage and elemental damage bypass Stoneskin completely. Shoot a stoneksinned mage with an elemental arrow and the physical damage is blocked but the elemental damage is not. This is the way Stoneskin is supposed to work. Only physical damage is affected by Stoneskin, and everything else bypasses it. |

I don't think hits by magic missile are considered in case of stone skins atleast not in my observation.
