Nameless One's Delta version of Icewind Gate 2, the Chinese characters are removed from load save game screen and the Journal when you update the file Chapters.2DA.
This leaves the Delta usually superior to the Beta version.

Well, I installed IWD2 accordingly to your guide, but Lights of Selune Mod gives me an error when I install it.

Mikaal, this looks suspiciously like the kind of errors I encountered when I didn't update my WeiDU before installing Ease-of-use mod. If so, you'd need to start over with a clean install, and remember to update WeiDU first, before installing mods. You take the WeiDU.exe from the latest version: If it's in the same IWD2 folder as all the other installers, running it once should update all the other installers...

I installed the mod like coineineagh recommended it in his IWD2 for Dummies Guide.
First I installed CustomDLL Patch, 2nd the XPCapper and ExtendedTables40, then the NoCD Patch.
After that I installed the mods listed here:

LoS has been updated since I last tried this installation, and perhaps other mods too. I'd try it again, but I'm in China now, so downloads from far-away servers are difficult. And the versions I stored on HDD are the old ones...
The WeiDU error definitely involves incompatibility with some other WeiDU mod, not the non-WeiDU patches. Could it perhaps be that you're using a non-english version of the game? I read something about translation strings there.

Anyway, it's not LoS that causes problems usually; it's the archaic Ease-of-use mod. It was made by the creator of the WeiDU program, Westley Weimer. The install version is too old, making its changes incompatible with anything else you install. But the options in Ease-of-use are really great, so it's worth updating its WeiDU for it. You need to manually update WeiDU installer before installing it. Hope it works out soon; I know mod installation can be frustrating, but it pays off when you get it right. I'll keep checking if you have more questions. Good luck

Edit:
There is no row of ???????questionmarks in any fields, so you don't have the same incompatibility issue that I thought you had. And you could install a component from LoS. I'm guessing it is some sort of incompatibility with a component of LoS, so I'll see if I can get the mod creator's attention. At the very least, he'll want to know about the problem...

Default Lights of Selune

I tried to install Lights of Selune as first mod but with the same result. It seems the error is only affecting the merchants. It install the mod but with the error in the debug file. Maybe someone can fix this issue by scripting the install file without the merchants?

I hope crucis will come and take a look at your problem. I fear there's not much I can do. For all I know, it may be due to a different install CD, a different windows version, etc.
The install I described works for my systems. I'm just a megamod enthusiast, not a modder. Hope a specialist can offer better advice..

It seems I solved the problem now. I deleted the lines that causing the error in the .tp2 file. Now I can install it, but without the 2 merchants Bowyer and Susu. I have to use Dale Keeper 2 to use the items I want. Thanx to all the people who tried to help me.

Dear all

I currently have this issue with Ease-of-use installed.
Previously I have just completed a run with IWD2NPCs and Tweaks installed with no issues.
However, after doing a new install (re-installed IWD2) with Ease, Tweaks and IWD2NPCs (in that order) I encountered problems with the game script.
Torak does not appear for the 2nd time and when I go to the next map he appears but does not leave after the orcs are killed, resulting in a game loop. The game freezes (does not crash) and I am unable to access my characters.
Please advise, someone?
(reinstalling ease of use does not solve the problem)

Ease of use is an old mod, developed by Westley Weimer himself with one of his earliers versions of the WeiDU installer. It's worth installing, but you need to do so carefully. If you don't update the WeiDU installer beforehand, I've experienced that it messes with your installations. Hence the reason why I added the line "IMPORTANT: update your WeiDU installer for this mod, it's old... and DON'T install Randomized Treasure component!" The links are in the first post on this thread. Better yet, you can download and read instructions I included in my IWD2_4dummies, link also in the 1st post.

Mods are somewhat user friendly, but still need a bit of focus to get it done right. It's not like a game, where you payed, and can expect it to go Accept, Next, Next, Install, Run.

The installation itself has no issues, it could be either the order of installation. I reinstalled in this order:
1. Ease
2. NPC
3. Tweaks
(I tried to update the setup.exe with Weidu.exe but the version failed to install--could not enter anything into the MS DOS prompt. However, installing NPC later caused the Weidu to auto update, got a sentence stating weidu was updated from ver 130 to latest edition, 22130 I believe.)

Is the order correct? :P

On a side note, it could be due to the NPCs are to be brought as a full party, I encountered the error while trying to solo with 1 of the NPCs, a duo party. In this case, the NPCs may not be suited to soloing/duo-ing or powergaming.

Problem resolved- all mods working fine with full party. reason for errors could be due to absence of scenery banters due to only having 1 of the 5 npcs in party. Ease mod auto updated itself when I installed Npc and tweak.

Default cant get IWG2 to run

Dear Coin
I have the delta version of Iwg2 installed, and it crashes when I get to Loading Area of Irenicus' Dungeon. I dont have mods installed other than Baldurdash. Im currently using a netbook with win 7 starter, but i have managed to finish iwd2 with some lag, so i dont think the absence of graphics adapter a problem. both disc images were running and edited the gamepath in config file.

I had similar lag issues, where the pause button wasn't quite as responsive as I'd have wanted.
Crash problems are probably due to not following install instructions to the letter.

At the time, I had tried Nameless One's delta version, but I noticed Chinese characters, and missing item descriptions. I've used Weimer's original beta since then, although Nameless One has reportedly updated his delta in the meantime. If you want to follow a detail install path, I described it in my IWD2_4dummies, but it applies for the beta of Icewind Gate II, not the delta version.

Another said at some point that the delta was playable, with less bugs than the beta, but I haven't tried it myself. If you *must* use the delta, I can't offer any useful advice.

I liked the Delta, I played it through. I found it hard to replicate all of the BG2 functions in the rather more limited IWD2 engine.

Loading area problem? It could be coming from a party that has more than four PCs, the last two slots are emptied by the game when you get to Chez Irenicus.

coin: issues solved when i edited program settings to run in compatibility mode for xp sp3.
however, i still cant get why the quest xp and monster xp is horribly low. the screenshots on weimer's page show the party getting 9500 xp for the dryad quest, which is the original amount of exp from bg2. Each mephit only granted about 75 exp. 150xp instead of 3000 when minsc and jaheira join. Any way I can remedy this to get the original amount of exp from Bg2?

Yes, the xp awards are low, but then so is the amount of additional xp needed to gain a new level. To gain level L you need 1,000 (L - 1) additional xp. For example, to gain level 20, when you are level 19, you only need 19,000 additional xp. If you used the original BG2 xp awards you could hit level 20 in Chez Irenicus.
Formula for xp is quadratic: 1,000 (L^2 - L)/2 = 500(L^2 - L). Hence the first difference will be linear: 1,000 (L - 1).

I just read up on the issues you reported in the thread last year, and I can confirm that much of the same problems appear in the beta too, including that Lady Yuth thing. I tried everything to unfear her, but just decided to ignore it in the end. I don't think I even mentioned it in my walkthrough of IG2. I focused on the 'gamebreaking' events, that hampered your progression in the story.

I looked up an old e-mail I got from the delta designer:

Most of, perhaps all, of what he did, was create a different installer method for Weimer's beta. The delta can be uninstalled.
Personally, I'm very careful. So I prefer to completely reinstall after a mistake in the installation is made, rather than trust an uninstaller.
Actually, since my main problems were with getting ID2 mods to run with IG2, it wasn't such a biggie: ID2 mods can be uninstalled regardless of IG2, but almost any change will make IG2 crash. The gimmick I discovered: If you simply rerun ID2 beta, it will install again as new! Why did it even need an uninstaller? The BG2 pre-installation is the most difficult part, really.

Anyway, the point I wanted to make: If the content is unchanged, just a different installer with an uninstall option, is that worth suffering those chapter change issues, messed up journal, chinese symbols, loss of item and spell descriptions, etc?
I'd argue that the beta is still better than the delta.

Ishad Nha said that the game is 'mostly playable', but the beta was mostly playable too, although a lot of areas for Throne of Bhaal were missing. If there really are big differences, perhaps you can give specifics?
For example, here's my findings on IG2beta. Is it different from your experience?

Here's some temporary instructions for cheats to get you through Watcher's Keep:
Complete level one (AR0312) after speaking to the Knights outdoors(AR0313), because after leaving the area, the main door will remain closed. Talk with Brother Pol for the vigil stone and the incantation scroll. The Statues in the main room didn't all go hostile for me, but I couldn't damage them even when they were hostile. Ctrl+Y kill them to progress. In level 2 (AR0329) the Ice room has an instakill effect, and the air room has an unconsciousness and high damage effect, this makes no sense atall. You can try stuff out, but ultimately all you need in the 4 circular rooms, are _plot03A, _plot03B, _plot03C, _plot03D, _ompon12 and _blun30A. So cheat these items in with ctrlaltdelete:createitem("[itemname]"). The rest of the areas are accessible, so fight monsters, detrap, plunder, etc. Level 3 (AR0324...) hasn't even been converted for the most part. Unfortunately you must just jump to that area, collect the items there, and also cheat in: _sw1h64, _helm29, _chan20*, _sw1h68, and unfortunately the Deck of Many Things doesn't exist either. You must also jump into level 4 with movetoarea("AR0335"), and be prepared for a fight. All the quests in this area seem ok, except the machine of Lum the Mad. It doesn't work atall, you can't enter a third combination, so you always get a 'punishment' effect. The demi-lich on this level can instakill you, so use disrupting weapons (Azuredge, Mace of disruption) to beat him to the punch! When jumping into level 5 (AR0343), be prepared for a fight again. Like me, you may not be able to enter the sub-areas for the Helmite ghost's challenges, but after I jumped to one of them (AR0337, 0338 and 0339), the others were accessible normally. The 'Spirit' challenge in the north doesnt work atall, so just cheat in the key _plot05C.
Demogorgon (AR0336) is tricky, since i can't seem to read the incantation scroll to imprison him. So I plot along and see what happens. Whatever you do, you can still reach that area from outside, through a tiny 'crack' in the 5th door, just like in the regular game. Good luck fighting him, i wouldn't be surprised if he just 'pops' if you use a disrupting weapon! The most XP can be gained by simply killing Demogorgon, and then going outside to kill the Vigil Knights (they give you the most XP). you complete the quest this way, despite not being able to use the incantation scroll.
That's where I am so far, I'll try to see which parts of Saradush can be completed soon...
