Default Summer Sale on Steam

Until July 22, the good folks at Steam are offering a series of daily discounts on titles old and new. While a sale at Steam is nothing out of the ordinary because there is always one going on, the concentration of good deals is rather massive at this time, with 75% being the prevailing rate of discount with the daily deals under the Summer Sale. Deals from one day are still available on the next, so there is a good number of titles with a substantial cut at any given time, for example, I was still able to get Knights of the Old Republic for 2 euro and full set of Age of Empires 3 and all expansion for nine today, even though those were yesterday's deals. Like always, bundles are available, except this time the figures can look astounding, such as -87% for Sega (Total War series and others) or -82% for Paradox games (Europa Universalis 3, Crusader Kings 2 and more). While bundles tend to be filled with fillers (relatively unimportant titles that run up the total amount of "you save"), the deals can still be good if you'd like to nail down a number of major titles in one go and shave a lot of bucks off the price. Independently, plenty of titles are 40% off anyway. In fact, whatever title I type into the search box, I have yet to see not being at at least -40% (EDIT: scratch that, I've found a -25%). Time for some fishing, I guess. Just remember you still need to go to work to pay the bills!

Also include the Dungeon Siege series, all three a steal at around $29.99 atm. If you like action-rpgs then you shouldn't miss it.

Scratch that, its now down to $17.99. No expansions though, which is a big let down.

Just wanted to let you guys know Fallout 3 Game of the Year Edition (means with all DLCs) is for 4.99 euros. While it's not an absolute must play it's definitely a good ride if you're looking for a hobby for some time. By now, it should probably be nicely patched, fully supported with graphics drivers, game walkthroughs etc., and moving fluidly on reasonable hardware. I haven't had the time to finish it since 2008 but I believe I made it through most of the core campaign, barring the DLCs. Probably still won't be able to resume playing for a looong time but still got it anyway.

Same, BTA. But also in my experience buying games in such circumstances does generally lead to playing them! So I guess sometimes it's better to skip a sale.

So far this week I've bought Fallout 3, Portal 2 and Half-Life Episodes 1+2. And this is on top of the half-dozen games I've bought over the last while that I haven't played yet. I figure if a game is less than $5 and it's on my list, I'll get it even if I'm not likely to play it for a year or so. The good news is that there aren't any games left on my list; I'm somewhat tempted by Assassin's Creed (which was on sale earlier), but the lack of a quicksave feature made me stop; plus I'm not really all that crazy about platformers. Which makes me wonder why I wanted the game in the first place.
