I was actually quite surprised (because I was certain that it would be delayed) that there was no announcement for so long... so I didn't even need to open the mail to know that it's going to be an announcement of a delay. I guess they waited for so long so as to maximize pre-orders in the final days after sending out a mailing promoting BG:EE (among other games) a while ago. Given their relatively small team and the goals that they've set for the project, it'd really be a small miracle if it was released on schedule. They're going to want to cash in on the Christmas sales though, so it's unlikely to be delayed again. Which isn't necessarily a good thing (because come end of November, start of December at best, it's going to be released no matter what state it's in).

News was surprising, but now or end of November, I'll probably find more time to play it at the end of November :P. As long as my pre-order is released at some point, I can wait.

Better a delay than a product not ready for release coming to market.
Well, Inquisitor it is then. I purchased and downloaded this afternoon. It ought to tide me over for a good long time. |

I actually went to pre-order this last night and saw its release date was changed to "November". I didn't pre-order it.

My first thought was, no biggie, not surprised! Then, the more I thought about it, I was pretty pissed off. They got my money in the pre-order, knowing all the time they were going to delay this. But then, I thought some more. This is a small company who is staking their name on this release. It is probably better to release the finished product when it, you know, is actually finished. I think the gaming industry has gotten away from actually completing the testing before shipping and it is refreshing to see a company actually wanting to ship a finished product. I HATE having to download patches or buy updates to fix the game that I ALREADY PAID FOR. They sure as hell don't advertise THAT feature when marketing their products...You don't buy pants that are missing half the stitching or underwear without the elastic.....But, when the game is finally released, it better be effing ready.

Maybe they'll shore up some of the new areas to make them visually similar to the originals while they do whatever they delayed the release for? The softness still bugs me. |

If a game is not delayed, I start wondering.

I would rather the game is delayed and then released relatively bug free than have what happened with Skyrim. Seven patches and the game still had bugs. That to me is inexcusable. I don't mind one patch and rather expect it, I can live with two patches but after that I get really annoyed.

Huh - I guess that's the benefit of not buying things early. By the time I bought Skyrim, it was pretty much bug free for me (admittedly, I do not mod, so I supposed I would have different comments if I did).
I have no intention of buying these games unless you and the others all crow about how wonderful they are, how they will be like a fountain of youth and transport me back to how I was when I first played BG, etc. I suppose at that point, any bugs they started with will be long gone.

Delayed is better than rushed. Besides, we still have the original BG while we wait.

Game releases on the PC are practically never really delayed solely due to bugs but rather other, more critical issues. I can't recall any game to date whose release had been pushed back coming out bug-free, or even bug-lite. So don't get your hopes up expecting a game whose release gets pushed back to come out bug-free...

There are bugs and bugs. Small ones you can step on, or avoid in games. large ones that makes things float or break quests.
But huge ones, the size of raptors, are merit for delays. There was one in Vampire the masquerade: bloodlines making it impossible to follow the main quest. Ot to stay in the world of superior dice: ToEE. Unspeakable horror. |
