AC not figured right?

I have the Darkmail +3 which provides base AC of 2. Then the bonus kicks in only to make the total AC -1. OK cool with that so far.
I also have an 18 Dex which should drop my AC down to -5 but it only goes to -3 ??? After all is said and done my AC is only down to -3 instead of the -5? What am I missing here

Darkmail +3 doesn't have a base AC of 2, it has an overall AC of 2. So 2 - 4 (Dex) = -2. I don't know where you're getting the additional -1.

Thanks for straightening out the armor bit for me. I forgot I also have the helm of Balduran (sp?) that is giving me +1 to AC.

I don't recall the AC of that particular suit of armor, but it's highly doubtful that the base as is 2. Standard platemail only has a base AC of 3, after all.

I'm guessing that your armor's base AC is actually 5, and the adjusted AC is 2... after the +3 enhancement. With 18 Dex (-4) that should net you a total AC of -2, so if you have -3 you are actually getting a boost from something else.
