I will be returning to school in the fall after 20+ years and need to get a new laptop to do classwork online. I also want to be able to do some gaming. Any recommendations would be welcome.

Any laptop is good enough for classwork (just avoid those with glossy screens as the light reflections can be an issue)... gaming on the other hand would depend on what kind of games you intend to play, so you'll have to elaborate on that.

Plus your school may have a deal worked out with dell so that you can get a laptop for cheaper. Any modern day laptop can play those games just fine with intergrated gpus as I have an older desktop that has an intergrated nvidia 6150le that plays neverwinter nights 1 fine with all settings maxed out.

Go Acer. Same good as supposedly better brands but without overpaying for the mere name of it.

Funny how some brands are heralded by users, and the same brands are avoided like the plague by others.
Every brand has one or two perfect machines and some bad ones. The brand itself says nothing. All the dells and Acers in my surroundings have failed, most with epic fails I can tell you. customer service? non existent. 1 get it at a PC store. A PC only store that specializes in PC's 2 Calculate the insurance for extended warranty into the price. (The we will honour the warranty pay off) 3 check the models number with reviews on the internet first to avoids bad models. 4 go to the store with model numbers you have checked and do not deviate from those. The line: this is its successor, is a classic. 5 feel the device in the store. especially the way the keyboard is integrated onto the body, and the keys with the spaces in between. Are the buttons located smartly and of good quality. 6Get a keyboard and mouse for longer session. Even moblie ones are way better. 7 beware models with under 3 usb ports. 8 No glossy screens. |

I appreciate everyone's input. I just received my new Dell yesterday. Got a decent discount through school as well. 17.3" w/ i7 processor, 8GB ram.

Glad I said to check with your school to see who you have discounts for. If its a new Ivy bridge yeah its going to last a while and will play the games you want perfectly fine.
