Ohh man. the RTS games I've played on hard are way too intense to be fun hehe. Unless i can reduce the speed or enter commands while paused. Then I'll turn up the difficulty.

Depends on the game I guess. Narrative-driven games I tend to play on easy, as I want to focus on the story and not the powergaming. Playing on 'hard' comes down to powergaming no matter how you twist or turn it. Sometimes you need lore knowledge to base your decisions on, but in the end it's just abusing what works.

Playing BG on 'core' (which is basically the normal mode) is another matter. I get that it's made to be challenging, but it almost forces you to powergame and essentially remove certain characters from the party if you got 'unlucky' with the hit point dicerolls as they'll just die from a random kobold arrow. :p

Tendentially hard. Then I usually lower the difficulty very freely whenever I'm stuck, to the point that sometimes I end playing a lower difficulty... for example Dragon Age 2...it was so boring that I went from hard to easy in order to get rid of fights quickly and be able to proceed through the storyline.

Infinity Engine games I generally play two different ways
    1) When I do a specific run, I do it on hard (specific = I am challenging myself on something)
    2) Else normal because it corresponds to the original D&D 2.0 ruleset.

But yeah.... 95% I go one point over normal in difficulty scaling for every game (not the hardest, but hard).
