Mage build question

    This is my very first playthrough.

    I have reached 6 levels in Fighter, then I switched to Mage, and reached level 7 for the 1st specialization mage bonus. Then I switched back to Fighter in order to reach level 11 (I need my HP bonus) and then switch back to Mage, reach level 12 (for the 2nd specialization bonus) and keep playing as Mage.

    I am starting to wonder, though, if this is going affect my gameplay too much.
    When (as in, in which Act?) can I expect to reach level 12 as a Mage with the plan I have outlined above?
    Should I keep on with my plan or switch back to Mage ASAP?

    I am currently in Act 3 with Morte and Dak'kon. My TNO Is a lvl6 Fighter (and would be a lvl7 Mage once he switches classes).
    My attributes (without boosts from items) are as follows:

    STR: 9
    DEX: 11
    CON: 10
    INT: 18
    WIS: 20
    CHA: 13

    You only need to go to 9th level fighter for the max hit points (10 for 8th and 9th) if you want to get to level 12 mage faster. Level 10 and 11 (?) mage will get four hit points while fighter will only get three. Level 10 thief will get six hit points if taken before fighter or mage.

    Not sure when you'd get to 12th mage.

    Thanks for the info. So should this be viable, I should level from 6 to 9 as a Fighter, then from 3 to 11 as Thief, then from 7 till the end as Mage. I hope I don't end up getting to 12 right at the end :D

    No. This game follows pseudo second edition rules. If you're going for a mage specialist, level 1-6 as a fighter, then 1-7 as a mage, then 7-9 as a fighter, then 1-10 as a thief (optional), then 8 and up as a mage.

    You get hit points based on the first class to hit a specific level:

    Fighter: d10 (for 1-9) or 3 (for 10 and above)
    Thief: d6 (for 1-10) or 2 (for 11 and above)
    Mage: d4 (for 1-10 or 1-11, I'm not sure) or 1 (for 11 or 12 and above)

    Subsequent classes to hit that level get one additional hit point.

    To get the fighter/thief/mage bonus at level 7 you must become 7th level in that class first (not six levels of fighter and then one level of mage -- it must be six of fighter and then seven of mage). At 12th level you should level in the same class you got the 7th bonus.

    We probably didn't understand each other there, bc that's exactly what I'm doing (I have already leveled to lvl 6 as a Fighter, switched to Mage, leveled to 7th, got the bonus, switched to Fighter, trying to get exp).
