Eh... Dragon Age 2 Inqusition sounds pretty meh, after all that time. Couldn't they call it Dragon Age III: Inquisition, at least :p .

Anyway - awesome news! I hope this game will rock all the harder for DA 2!

Claudia Black is confirmed as a voice actor, so that means Morrigan is back for the 3rd game.

Tha game will also use the Frostbite engine in some way. thats the same engine as Battlefield, Skyrim and The Witcher 2?

Neither Skyrim nor the Witcher 2 uses the Frostbite engine.

    Dragon Age III

The BioWare release claims they listened to a lot of gamers re the good/bad and are going to make this a true gamers game. We've heard that before so let's see how well they listened. Hope they follow thru with the claim of up to 10 character party.;)

The Witcher 2 uses an engine developed by CD Projekt themselves, the so-called RED Engine. Skyrim uses the Gamebryo engine, just like pretty much all the games Bethsoft has released from Morrowind onward.

The Frostbite engine is the engine made by the makers of the Battlefield series, and is now used in quite a few EA games, including the latest (or upcoming, I'm not keeping track) Need for Speed instalment.

I would expect DA3 to be quite a bite better than DA2, as that one was rushed out in about a year. Still, I would also expect an action game with some RPG elements, as that seems to be the course that Bioware is following. Add in some quite well written NPCs, some Bioware style dialogue options that suggest choice but offer no actual choice at all and copy-pasted locales (I know I said they had more time to develop DA3, but DA:O and ME had their share of copy-pasted dungeons as well).

Optimistically, some plot threads should actually get resolved this time, though I haven't heard if this will actually be the final installment or not - but that's what's optimistical about it.

Unlike with DA2, I will be going into this game with extreme caution. It remains to be seen if I will purchase it. I want Origins part 2, not Hawke part 2 -- and I'm not necessarily referring to the story here, but rather to the soul of the game.

By the looks of things, the main character will be an Inquisitor. Those are seekers from the chantry, i belive. And only humans can be seekers. So i guess we are stuck with playing a human.

Oh, cool, playing as an Inquisitor will be a totally new experience for me. I mean, except for the one that I'm currently playing here, of course. You gotta love originality! ;)

Where did you get that? Admittedly, I haven't done a lot of research, just the few things posted here or linked from those places, but it would definitely affect my decision if you have a source for that.

From what I've seen, there are three pieces of evidence to support that:

    1. The title.

    2. The fact that in the other two games, the main character had to be a specific profession/person (Grey Warden, Hawke).

    3. The screen shot with Grey Warden and Seeker (but I find this to be much weaker evidence than the other two).

The title does indicate that the Inquisition will play a major role, just as the Blight played a major role in Dragon Age: Origins. But there were a lot of people in the Blight who fought besides just Grey Wardens. They deliberately picked 1) the people most likely to be involved from an early stage and 2) people who could be of any race. Also, the Blight is a clear case of Good vs. Evil, while an Inquisition is much less morally black and white. There are good and evil people who are inquisitors as well as fighting against the inquisition. That follows the morality of DA:II more, and there, you had the choice to side either with the mages OR with the chantry. If they are moving toward meaningful choices, as they at least say they are, I'd suspect they'd combine the two, which would mean that they would NOT have the main character be an Inquisitor, since that would determine their part in the Inquisition, and would mean that the character would NOT be able to choose sides.

Yes, in their screen shot, they showed a Grey Warden and a Seeker, and I can see how someone could make the jump from Grey Warden = main character in DA:O to Seeker = main character in DA:III, but that was just an example, and I suspect the Seeker could just as easily be a follower rather than the main character.

So, I'm still optimistic, but I'll definitely wait to hear more before jumping in. DA:II was a huge disappointment for me (I haven't even finished the game because I got so sick of having the same type of battles spring up all over town no matter what I was doing, and combat isn't my main reason for playing), so I'm not just going to pre-order the game, but because I love Origins so much, I'm also not willing to just decide they won't make changes I'd like.

So, if there's more out there that shows that the Seeker IS the main character, I'd like to see that. I don't think I'd enjoy playing a Seeker, even if he/she could be of other races.

Did you watch the Dragon Age Movie: Dawn of the Seeker? If anything, the player will have a choice; hopefully many.

As for DAII vs. DAO; there has been a ton of comparisons. I don't believe either game failed; however, one was a better overall experience because of the flexibility we had as players. What DA III will be, is yet to be seen.

I"m going to buy DAIII period and pre-order. I thought the extras I received for pre-order was worth it...the added character definitely added to the main story. I played it with and without; with on my PS3 and without on the PC.

I just hope Bioware does less with DLC and come out with a full blown expansion, that is where DAO exceed DAII. In fact, DAII had an expansion in the work, EA/Bioware should have completed the expansion and than concentrated on DAIII. I would have liked to finish off Hawke's story; hopefully DAIII does not mention something that could not be played. Imagine if you playing DAIII and they mention something about Hawke from the so called cancel expansion that we as players will say WTF....

Enough babbling...I'm buying DAIII even with a falter DAII.

I hope they let you make plenty of choices but also take into account choices from DA:O and DA2.

Would be interesting to see the impacts of decisions in each.

    EDIT:

Oh, and go back to the elf images from DA:O. The elves in DA2 just don't look as good.

Further EDIT (and spoiler warning for anyone who has not been underimpressed with Mass Effect 3's ending.):

They could even have a A, B, or C type ending for DA3 but they should *not* use the same ending film for *each* like in Mass Effect 3. The end you chose there provide more variety than the color of the same explosion. There should be large differences like if there even is an explosion (or a galaxy wide series of explosions).

DA:O could serve as a model, like when side decisions such as if you paid well to a young woman/girl for her family's sword could be worth a mention in the epilogue. This would add a lot of flavor to a 3 or even 4 choice ending. What major group you side with and how can and should have an impact on the ending but side decisions you make along the way that may or may not change the final battle can still be worth having. And, assuming the activation flags don't get messed up, adding slides with these side plots can bring a lot of epilogue to a story without having to add video.

It will take short of a miracle before I play any Bioware game. I confess, it is irrational.

I am still extremely irritated by the shift to console and the leash from EA. The gamepaly in Mass Effect 2 was the limit. Dragon age 3 will be better as 2. Not difficult is half the rants are true.

    ---------- Added 0 hours, 3 minutes and 18 seconds later... ----------

Cut scenes with choices is poverty. Gameplay is most important.
