I'm home from the hospital. I had to go in to have a lithotripsy (sic) which is the procedure they use sonic waves to blast a kidney stone to smithereens. I'm resting comfortably and am high as a kite right now. Why I'm at SP when I should probably sleeping I have no idea, but it seemed like a good idea at the time. Good night.

So is your whole side bruised from the slamming of the sound waves against you? Or did you get the laser treatment?

OK. Many hours later (and much more coherent) I am feeling much better. They did the sound wave technique, but I believe they have improved the technology. I'm a little sore on the left flank, but I don't think I will have any bruising. I'm done with the narcotics and have moved on to just Tylenol. I say this and when it comes to pain, I'm a complete wimp so I must be doing well.

What happened was about three weeks ago, I passed a 2mm stone on my own. It was quite painful, but it is almost a miracle as when it comes shooting out of you, the pain goes away immediately. Luckily, I was able to save the stone so they could test it. They made me get a CAT scan and they found a 5mm stone and a couple of 1mm ones. The mm ones are no big deal and they say many people have them and pass them and don't even know it. 5mm would be like passing a pea from your kidney to your bladder and then out your know where. They said that would send me to the Emergency room, so I decided to have them blast it out of me.

I am greatly relieved that it is finally destroyed (although I haven't passed the remnants yet) as I have felt like I have had a ticking time bomb in me that past three weeks while waiting for today.

Back to drinking more water and then urinating, and then repeat ad nauseum.

That all sounds very . . . not fun.

Good luck on hopefully never having to repeat any of it. :)

Glad to hear you are on the mend. I've heard that kidney stones are one of the things in life that women admit can actually be more painful than childbirth, so that's saying something. I am off to drink some more water right now.
